Pirates Inquire On Saltalamacchia

According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates have inquired regarding the availability of Braves catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia

Kovacevic says the Braves want frontline pitching for Salty (ie, Mark Buehrle).  This makes a deal unlikely for the Bucs.  What would John Schuerholz want from the Pirates?  I can't see how it would get done without Ian Snell or Tom Gorzelanny included.  A trade of either would be shocking.  Kovacevic mentions that multiple teams have an eye on Zach Duke, but he's not comparable to the aforementioned pair.

Let me preface this by saying not to blast me if this question is stupid....

Would the Braves be interested in someone like Jason Jennings? The stros are fast falling out of contention (some would say, already out...those people dont work in the front office though) and I would love to see them spin what was probably going to be a rental anyways for Salty.

Please, dont yell at me.

I wont yell at you... but that scenario seems very unlikely to me.

Laputian, YOu stupid, ignorant, idiotic....

I am completely kidding.

Naw, that will not happen. The braves are going to hold onto salty unless that get a bounty that will help them now and in the future more than salty would. A rental of someone of Jennings status may help out a bit more now, but definitely in the future. This Pirates/Braves idea makes more sense, as a young pitcher of Snell of Gorzelanny's calibur would improve us now and would give us a frontline starter for the future, which would mean more to us than salty probably. i agree with roto though, it does not make much sense for the pirates to trade one of those two, as they have neil walker and andrew mcclutheon in the minors, so they probably want to keep the best of their young arms so they can contend when their young batting prospects start to mature. Personally, I think this deal only goes through if the Pirates offer snell, as he would seem to be exactly what the braves need. I just highly doubt there is any chance of that happening, and with the Red Sox now going after buherle, it seems like we will keep salty, buT MAYBE a three team deal could be talked about, such as

CWS- Salty
Boston- Buehrle
Atlanta- Burtcholz

It makes sense to me, but Kenny Williams probably wants young arms, so that is probably not likely to go through either, but just throwing ideas out there.

A rental of Jennings would definitely NOT help us out more in the future

"CWS- Salty
Boston- Buehrle
Atlanta- Burtcholz"

Theo: Hey KW you want an ace in return for Buehrle or a good catcher?

KW: Theo come on what is the most important commodity in baseball?

Theo: That's what I thought.

Nice butchering the name btw, its fun to watch what people end up calling him, even on red sox msg boards.

I can see the Braves and Astros working out a Jennings deal if the Astros are sellers but it would be around Yunel Escobar.

As far as the "CWS- Salty
Boston- Buehrle
Atlanta- Burtcholz" deal, it will never happen. John Schuerholz does not trade for prospects and how would that help them this year?

Buchholz is not being moved

period

Buchholz probably would be an up grade over davies or carlyle, so that is how he would help us. And as you can see in my first statement, I stated that my idea probably would not happen, so that means I know the idea is not realistic, but again, it was just an idea. If I were to have said my idea should happen, then yes go ahead and butcher me, but do not do it when I acknowledge the fact that a trade is likely not to happen.

But heck, most of you are probably right, it was just an idea, but the braves need as much offense as they can get right now

so we should probably keep salty

Good to see the Pirates are not thinking Paulino is the future catcher of the organization. They had a love affair with him for too long. As a Pirate fan, there is little to no way that DL parts with Snell or Gorzy, but are there really people interested in Zack Duke? I do not see how anyone would want him, and if DL trades him, it would be another pathetic sell low move.

Buchholz is not an ace YET but yea he probably will end up ebing one.

ummm why would the braves give up salty and escobar? they both seem to be productive and john wouldnt take anything less than a ready pitcher [buehrle]or young star with potential [snell]

If I were Dave Littlefield, I would trade Snell for salty in a second. The Pirates actually have some nice pitching prospects in AAA and could afford to send Snell packing.(He hates losing anyway)
No way Gorzy is dealt...yet
