| Andruw Jones' Braves Career Over »
By Tim Dierkes [October 2, 2007 at 3:31pm CST]
Here are some various trade rumors that didn't quite have enough behind them for individual posts.
- There's a gossip section in the Boston Herald called Inside Track, written by Gayle Fee, Laura Raposa, and Erin Hayes. They heard that Coco Crisp told fans at the recent Division Champs celebration that he expects to be dealt this winter to make room for Jacoby Ellsbury. By most accounts Crisp has developed into a fine defensive center fielder, and he's under contract for $4.75MM in '08, $5.75MM in '09, and an $8MM club option in '10. Perhaps Crisp could be used to acquire a third baseman in the event that Mike Lowell leaves and the Red Sox can't sign A-Rod.
- Phil Wood of the Washington Examiner speculates that the Nationals could get in on Jason Bay. Not the worst idea, but the Nats don't seem to have the available young pitching for the deal.
- Mark Bradley of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution likes the Nate Robertson to Atlanta idea, tossing Joe Blanton and Shaun Marcum into the mix as other options.
- Bob Wickman may quietly retire, bumming out these guys.
- El Lefty Malo dissects recent comments from Giants GM Brian Sabean.
- Peter Abraham suggests the Mets trade Carlos Beltran for pitching.

I would like to see Jason Bay end up in Milwaukee. They need a left fielder with Jenkins probably gone. Is there any kinda deal the Pirates would do with Milwaukee?
Dave Bush? Capuano? Bill Hall?

My but that's a lot of man-love for Bob Wickman.

What Milwaukee really needs is a good defensive centerfielder,so that they could move Hall to left. I would think that's more of a priority than adding Bay. Plus, who's to say this year isnt part of a decline phase.

I don't see the Pirates and their new GM trading their best player to the team that is going to be competitive for years to come. If he does, it should be his first and last move.

Victor Zambrano, and Jaret Wright were released by the Orioles. Man the Orioles suck.

Oh please let Marcum come to Atlanta. That would be about the best the Braves could hope for.
And seriously... of all the players in the MLB, why Bob Wickman?

Crisp for Crede?

The Pirates are not at all going to give away Jason Bay, this is not a move to ease payroll. The main reason for the trade is to shake up the line-up due the fact they have similar players in Nady and possibly Pierce and a need to address some much bigger holes. So that whole Bill Hall who can't catch a ball in center to save his life and Chris Capuano who hasn't won a game in months isn't going to fly. The Pirates will be looking for some young talent with a high ceiling.

Jason Bay to the Nationals? Just what Washington needs ... another corner OF. With Kearns, Church and Pena, they already have to play at least one of them out of their ideal position. Meanwhile, assuming Nick Johnson is ever healthy and is on the same roster at the same time as Dmitri Young, both under contract next year, they'll have to find AB's for both by sending Young to LF periodically. While I like the idea of Bay and Zimmerman in the same lineup, I also liked the idea of Bay and LaRoche in the same lineup, and we all know how that turned out.
No, thank you. Give me a CF, a middle IF, or, God forbid ... A PITCHER!!!!

You forgot the part where Megan Fox, Jessica Alba, and that Polish genius/pop starlette show up at your house and ravage you. You then grab your shotgun/ chainsaw combo and massacre zombies.
That and Willis is a stepdown for the Sox rotation. He can be long relief.

back to reality
Coco and Lugo wouldn't even get you Willis. Plus why would the Marlins want both a CF and SS where does that put Hanley??

How about sending Coco Crisp to the Cubs? They are going to need an outfielder if Cliff Floyd leaves. And he is a great defensive outfielder which is what the Cubs need.

I think that Coco would go great with the Braves. The Braves could just offer up Yunel Escobar and get Coco and another SP maybe Nick Hagadone or Justin Masterson. Red Sox get an upgrade over Julio Lugo but this also means that Lowell would likely be gone if the Sox's are really going to pursue A-Rod and get him.
Posted by: Barroid_Bonds | October 02, 2007 at 08:05 PM
Sox are not trading Coco + Masterson/Hagadone for Yunel, regardless of how bad lugo is we owe him another 30 million.
Plus iirc Hagadone made BA's top 20 list in his league, not too shabby..lets hold onto him..

So here's a thought; Coco Crisp, Craig Hansen and another pitching prospect to the Twins for Johan Santana. The Twins are losing Torii Hunter, and Crisp would make a solid and reasonably-priced replacement. Add a couple of decent pitching prospects in exchange for a guy who they'd lose to free agency in a year anyway?
But it would only make sense for the Red Sox if they could get a window to negotiate a contract extension with Santana.

"But it would only make sense for the Red Sox"
That is exactly right. You trade Coco Crisp, a failed reliever and another pitching prospect for the best pitcher in the world. Oh, and the BoSox have to have a negotiating window.

if the pitching prospect was clay buchholz then i don't think that's a bad deal, but the red sox nation has too big of a crush on him for that to happen

ZachAttack, Hansen isn't a failed reliever. He struggled as a starter in 2006 when he was called up far too early in his career because the Sox were scrambling for starts. Hansen was dubbed the Sox closer of the future until Papelbon took the job. Hansen still projects as a very good reliever, even a solid closer. He's only 23 right now, and the Twins would have him under their control for 5 years before he even reached free agency.
In addition, the Twins get an inexpensive CF in Crisp who plays excellent defense and is locked up for 3 more years (2 plus a club option for 2010). Then add another pitching prospect who can help the club within a year or two, who the Twins would also have control of for 6 full ML seasons.
And yes, Johan Santana is the best pitcher in MLB. He is also leaving after 2008 if they don't trade him first. They've already made it very clear that they can't afford to sign Santana for what he'll get on the market, and everyone in baseball is just waiting to see which team he gets traded to this winter. What's so unbelievable about the Twins trading a great pitcher for pitching prospects that will help their team for years?
Posted by: metafrantic | October 02, 2007 at 09:31 PM
Errr...I don't know if you know anything about the Twins system, but they are stacked with young pitching. Bonser, Slowey, Garza, Liriano, Baker, Swarzak, Perkins just to name a few. Hansen wouldn't make it as the 7th inning man, so I doubt he is of much use to the Twins. Crisp would be nice, but the Twins need power, not scrappy players like Crisp.

Honestly, I feel disgraced to say I'm a fan of the Boston Red Sox after what I read from some of you idiots that call yourself Red Sox fans. Coco Crisp and Julio Lugo for Dontrelle Willis AND Miguel Cabrera? Honestly you sound like bandwagon Yankee fans. Winning just one world series soured what was a great fan base, now we have idiots running around thinking they know what they're talking about.
Knowing the Red Sox orginization, they would not want to keep Ellsbury as the 4th outfielder because they would want to give him more regular at-bats. So its either starting CF for Ellsbury or back to AAA for him. And no, I do not expect the Red Sox to go after Johan. I just expect them to throw their prospects at the Twins and drive up the price so he doesn't go to the Yankees. What I'm interested in is what the Sox do with Schilling, Clay Buccholz, and Jon Lester.

Too bad Theo signed Drew to that silly contract - Ellsbury could be the everyday RF next year. Now you are stuck paying that clown Drew 14m a year. Francona has said he thinks Crisp is the best defensive CF he has ever seen, so I'm not sure about him being excited about losing Crisp. I don't think they will sign Schilling again, I think he fades away in the NL - the Phillies would be a great fit. A rotation of Beckett-Matsuzaka-Wakefield-Lester-Buchholz makes me happy, as a Jay fan.

the braves will not be trading yunel he is cheap and renteria's contract is up, and for coco and masterson are you they could do alot better than that if they wanted to go down that route they should ask for lester at the least! and what that coco-hansen for santana is the worst trade proposal I have ever heard lol, omg, are you insane??? if the twins would even consider trading santana to the AL and a playoff contender like the red sox they the talks must start with a package of buchholz-ellusby and even another prospect santana is the best pitcher in baseball and they do not come cheap..........
