Nats Shopping Rauch For A Shortstop?

The Washington Post's Barry Svrluga says the Nationals are listening on Felipe Lopez, as you might expect.  However they're hesitant to leave Cristian Guzman as the only person on the roster who can play shortstop.  With that in mind, Jim Bowden is shopping Jon Rauch with at least one team in hopes of getting a shortstop.  By the way, only one of Rauch/Cordero will get traded, if any.

Trying to think of Rauch scenarios.  To the Cubs for Ronny Cedeno?  To the Dodgers for Chin-Lung Hu?  To the Red Sox for Jed Lowrie?

All three of those sound like something Bowden would go for. I think Lowrie would be the most likely target though.

That being said, I actually hope that this one doesn't go through. Rauch is far better than Cordero.

Rauch worries me everyday as a closer. You remember those stetches in June/July when he was as good as my foot?

They must have a backup plan in the event he cant handle it. Colome?

Would Cedeno really be enough for Rauch? Rauch seems to be the superior player, and it'd be such a good move for the Cubs that I suspect it will never happen.

How about Rauch to the Whitesox for Uribe and Aardsma.

Nationals get their SS and a reliever in return.

Aardsma sucked last year but still has the stuff to be successful.

How about Rauch to his former club, the White Sox, for Juan Uribe?

Buster Olney said earlier last week that the braves would be an idea if cordero were made available, so I think you may could throw lillibridge into that mix as well.

I am not saying i would want for that to happen, but I would not mind rauch, and lillibridge now really is blocked with the addition of infante. I still think the better trade might be lillibridge for Dejesus.

Rauch for Uribe and Aardsma sounds mighty good to me. We'll take the big fella back.

wouldnt mind the the braves getting cordero if it could be for lillibridge as he is totally blocked now. Keep Cordero till the deadline and spin him to a team in need of a closer, and restock the farm!

HebrewNational: Nah, I don't really rmember that stretch...the only time the Nats used him as a closer last year, he was really successful...didn't he go 3 for 3? Anyways, he gave me less panic attacks when he was pitching usually than Cordero does every time he closes a game...

Chin-Lung Hu is supposed to be a marvel with the leather. Since he is a rookie they would have an inexpensive SS for a while. Rauch is a good RP and therefore valuable but I'd take a straight-up trade of these 2 guys if I were Jim Bowden.

If the Red Sox were to give up Lowrie for Rauch, that'd be an awful deal. Lowrie has the potential to be an all-star shortstop, the kind of young player you don't give up for a reliever.
