Per ESPN--Kevin Mench was already DFA'd

yes bobby, but he has 10 days to be traded or accept a minor league assignment before being released, which is why tim said he would be a free agent soon, because he is not going to the minors and it seems that he is not going to get traded

As far as patterson goes, if cox wants a defensive minded centerfielder, this guy is arguably the best one avaliable at the least cost (it would take a prospect to get crisp). Try a one year five million dollar deal, and see what he can do. IF we want a defensive minded CF, why not go get one who has arguably the best offensive tools (even though he has never used them efficiently), and who will not cost us any prospects. Plus he is from Atlanta, and he would be playing for a contender, so maybe he could put together a year similar to the one he was having with the cubs before he blew out his knee. I would not expect that, but i could see patterson has the best bargain value pickup in center for the braves.

I haven't seen anything on here yet, but there have been suggestions of trade talks between the Yankees and Giants regarding Hideki Matsui. You can check on ESPN insider or an article by George King. Just figured I'd let you know. Also do you have anything new on Alexei Ramirez?

You haven't seen any Matsui-to-Giants rumors? You obviously haven't been paying attention then.

Patterson could end up being a great value FA. He brings great speed and solid defense. If you could get him for $5m it would be a steal. I think it will be more like a 2/14.

I remember the A's being interested in Mench a season or two back. I wouldn't be surprised if they give him a chance to be the new Bobby Kielty of the team....4th outfielder type player.
