MLB.com is reporting that the Rangers have come to terms with outfielder Milton Bradley on what appears to be a one-year deal. Its base worth is $5 million, though Bradley can earn a few incentives.
Of course, there's still the issue of Bradley's knee. He suffered a torn ACL towards the end of the season in that strange scuttle with Mike Winters and Padres manager Bud Black. Some reports have Bradley being ready by Opening Day, some have him sitting out the first month of the season.
Not that we could have expected it, but this report gives us no further insight into Bradley's health condition. It does mention, though, that Bradley has to take a physical. I would certainly hope so.

This might mean the Padres will step up their efforts for Cameron/Fukudome.

if wash can keep him in line and he stays healthy, it might not be a bad deal. and with gagne gone now, i have a bad feeling this will be the biggest name the rangers will sign...

This certainly means the Padres will step up their offers for Cameron & Fukodome. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Padres offer a 3yr/$42mm offer for Kosuke. They need him to compete next year.
As far as Bradley goes, it's disappointing to see him spurn the Padres offer but I'm hoping for the best for him to stay healthy as the DH for the Rangers. I'm in the minority that wants to see him enter into his 30's and turn his career into a solid one. The tools are there for him to do it.

By mid-season of '08, the Padres lineup could look like this and be dangerous.
Brian Giles
Matt Antonelli
Adrian Gonzalez
Kevin Kouzmanoff
Kosuke Fukodome
Khalil Greene
Josh Bard
Scott Hairston/Chase Headley
For that to work, Antonelli & Kouzmanoff would have to live up to their potential.
With a strong pitching staff coming back and Bud Black coming off his rookie year as manager, the Padres will be a force to be reckoned with if they can land Fukodome.

$5million for Bradley. That ain't bad at all. Even with that freak knee injury, he's always had health problems. But, since Texas couldn't land Hunter, there is no reason to overspend on anyone else.
For some reason, I can't see Kevin Towers overspending on Fukodome. I think we will see Mike Cameron patrolling CF for San Diego next year.

Very good player when healthy. Wouldn't mind seeing him in a Braves uny. They probably end up trading him too a contender once they fall out of the race like they did too Lofton last year.

Is Bradley going to be a DH or center fielder?
Posted by: kdub | December 09, 2007 at 04:02 PM
if keith law likes the signing, so do i. he'll start the year at dh most likely and will probably man a corner outfield spot once he is healthy. and the one comment is exactly right, come july next year, he could fetch a nice little package if he's playing to his potential. another thing to watch is how he will hit now that he's finally in a hitters park.

They have too give up thier first round pick cause he's a Type A FA. Right?
Posted by: | December 09, 2007 at 04:48 PM
the top 15 picks are protected, so they will lose their 2nd rounder

we didnt offer him arbitation so we get nothing :(
im happy he is gone. he spurned us in november when he refused to take a physical and did it again! I also heard the higher ups were torn over signing him or not, so i think its good he is gone!

The day Bradley plays 150 games is the day he takes a team to the playoffs...I'll always hate and love him for what he gave Oakland. He really turned his life around but, then he went and called Beane a racist. Sometimes you just can't change who you are; at least he learned to ask umpires for help to deal with idiot fans and stayed liked by his teammates.

I'm not going to put words in Milt's mouth, but if he thought Beane was a racist I can only imagine what he felt like playing for the Padres especially if Cameron is gone.
My friends, there aren't any black guys on that roster. Cameron wants to play for Dusty Baker, Milt gets to play for Ron Washington. I don't blame them so much.
Not to mention SD is one of the biggest cities not to have a real black population. Not trying to start a race thing, but I'm just saying...

Scott Hairston.
Not a lot, but not nothing.

This is a good signing to give Texas some trade bait at the deadline, but nothing else. They're not going anywhere and adding another outfielder isn't going to change that.
