Affeldt is losing his mind if he thinks he'll get five years. Two if he's lucky.

The Rays can have Ryan Freel. He's availabe if the Reds expect Bruce to start.

I have one shred of advice for Jeremy Affeldt: "Don't hold your breath."

Haha, how could he seriously think that he is worthy of a 5-year deal?!?!?! I would have laughed at anything past 2 years.. The fact is that he just had his first good year in the major leagues. It wasn't even great, just good... and with a BB/9 of 5.03, I would assume that most of it was a fluke. If you look at his career stats, the very idea of 5 years is even more hilarious: 25-27, ERA-4.74, WHIP-1.50...

I know that guys like Linebrink and Riske got ridiculously long deals, but those are proven relievers... and he is Jeremy Affeldt.

Rays could trade for German and Gobble who are available with the additions of Callaspo and Mahay.

German will be 30 this year and can play 1B 2B 3B or LF and SS in a pinch. He posted a .264/.351/.376 line in 07' down from 06' were he hit .326/.422/.459.

Gobble is only going to be 25 at the start of the season and posted 3.02 ERA with 50 SO & 23 BB in 53.2 IP.

Don't know what the Royals would want in return, any ideas?

They could use a power bat w OBP at first or in the outfield, an offensive minded SS or a SP preferrably a lefty that would push Bale back to the pen. Would McGee be too much with another prospect?

East Windup gave some good info on Japanese stadiums. Bad info on Hiroki Kuroda. He's not a Royal. The Dodgers signed him.

Interesting about the Japanese stadiums. It looks like they're shorter to RF, CF, and LF, but have much taller walls for the most part. I guess that gets a lot of flyball homers, but a lot of liners that would be caught end up as doubles too.

Billy Heywood, McGee and another prospect would be too much. A guy I do like as a super utility is Mark Teahen, as he is a LH bat who can play 1st, 3rd, and the OF. I don't think they would go for a guy like Gobble because they would be buying high, and Friedman hasn't shown a propensity to do that.

In regards to what the Rays would be willing to give up, I'm guessing they are going to try to fill these holes without taking away from their core or from their top prospects, so guys I expect to see them make available would be Gomes(OF), Guzman(UT), Ruggiano(OF), Riggans(C), Howell(LHSP), Houser(LHSP), Mason(RHSP), Jackson(RHSP), and Hammel(RHSP).

They Royals already traded away Howell, and Houser and Mason haven't even pitched in AA yet, and the rest probably wouldn't do much for Dayton Moore.
