If Lugo continues to be unimpressive then I think there is a better chance that the Sox pickup part of his remaining salaray to move him but not for one of the free agent shortstop options. I think this team is very high on Lowrie right now. I think they see him as another Pedroia type - consistent but not flashy on defense with a solid ability to get on base.
I think it's much more likely that if they can move Lugo, Lowrie takes over at short rather than bringing someone else in.

Well the comment was deleted while i typed this (presumably because it was rude) but in response to the actual point: "Why would the red sox sign lugo to a 5 year contract if lowrie was ready?"
Lowrie was in high A the year before they signed Lugo where he had a horrible season (mostly due to injury). 2007 was his break out year where he tore through AA and AAA (297/410/501 and 300/356/506 respectively). Based on 2007 they NOW know he is ready. Before 2007 there was question about whether he'd even make it to the majors much less as a shortstop.
Also, one little nitpick, Lugo is signed to a 4 year contract with a vesting option, NOT a 5 year contract (it'll be extremely easy to make sure the option doesn't vest).
Lastly, the jury may still be out on whether Lowrie CAN actually play shortstop in the majors, but considering Lugo has made 6 errors in 16 games (the current major league leader at ANY position), he's not exactly proving himself capable either.

lugo will get through this season and then i think the sox will bite the bullet and attempt to move him this winter. his batting average is up alittle, so arent his errors which is always seemingly the case with him. lugo is fine to get us through the year, nothing he can do short of hitting well into 300 is going to save him now

Get ready to add Soriano to the list of worst contracts of all time.

If the Red Sox walk away with a bag of peanuts in return for Lugo, they walk away winners.

Son of a...
'Zona's scouting department is just ridiculous. They're already killing teams with a mix of high draft picks (Upton, Drew, Jackson), smart signings (Hudson, Byrnes), sweet trade acquisitions (Haren, Young) and late draft gems (Webb, Reynolds, Owings wasn't really late, but he wasn't a first or second rounder, so...) Byrnes is 32, Hudson's 30... If you take Randy Johnson out of the equation, those guys (and Doug Davis) are the oldest contributors on the roster! Now it turns out Scherzer is friggin' lightning in a bottle- some combo of Lincecum and Joba... They're going to dominate the NL for the next decade! Hell, they may actually have the talent to beat an AL team!!! Throw in Gerardo Parra and Jarrod Parker, who's further off, but who I'm more excited about as a prospect than even Scherzer, and... Damn. I'm not even a D'backs fan; I'm just impressed. That organization is run superbly. Then again, for an O's fan, anything looks good in contrast!

I saw Scherzer this spring and was definitely impressed with both his intensity and preparation. There's no question he will be ready soon. I plan on watching him in his next start in Tucson.

Forget a bag of peanuts. If the sox are allowed to lick the salt left behind from the peanuts they'd get a good return for lugo.
On a side note, I'd have to agree with Dave about comment deleting. We're mostly adults here, you'd expect we'd be able to shake off coarse language on the internet.

The commenting policy can be found here:

The comment I deleted was:
"use ur brain. If lowrie is close y would they spend 50 mil on a fa??"
Easy violation on the comment policy and easy decision to delete. Nothing to do with thin skin; the comment was not directed at me.
That said...the comments ain't a democracy. Any comment not good for my business is a goner. Can't think of any times I deleted constructive respectful criticism of something I wrote, for what it's worth.

If being told to use your brain for something obvious is grounds for banning and deletion than you got some issues Tim. That is the definition of a think skin.
Why would you curb solid discussion?
Its your thing but that seems very childish.

My understanding is that he deleted the comment for using the text-message type spelling. The "ur" and "y" instead of spelling out the word.

I'll respect the proper grammar deleting. But I dont want to post and be on sites that delete because people differ with the sites owners opinion and he cant take it.
Thats low class.

Once again, the deleted comment was not in reference to my post. It was in reference to the first commenter, Aaron.
The combo of grammar, lack of value added, and insulting another commenter is an easy delete. Telling someone to use their brain is insulting and would be deleted in all cases - whether it referred to me or another commenter.

If Josh's comment was this:
"If Lowrie is close why would they spend 50 mil on a FA??"
I wouldn't have given it a second glance.

Alright, everyone who is complaining about Tim deleting the comment, please, and I'm going to say this as respectively as I can, shut it. This is Tim's site, he does not want to see people using text message grammar on his site, which has become his business. I am not fond of reading that kind of grammar on a site like this, and neither is he. Remember, Tim quit his job for this website, cut the man some slack, he had a lot of balls to do that, and I respect him for it, as I have grown partial to this website.
My name is Connor McFadden, and if you have a problem with Tim's deleting, then take it up with me.
