« Offseason Outlook: Detroit Tigers | Main | Mussina Willing To Return »
According to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Cardinals second baseman Adam Kennedy has asked for a trade. Kennedy is unhappy with the uncertainty of his role.
Kennedy, 32, is hitting .263/.304/.327 in 339 plate appearances. He's been an asset defensively, making 19 more plays than the average second baseman. He'll earn $4MM next year. Even with the strong glovework, Kennedy may be difficult to trade.

Strange, I thought every player loved St. Louis and never wanted to leave there because it's such a great place and the fans are all so cool and stuff. Well, every player except Scott Rolen. And I guess things ended badly there for Jim Edmonds too. And Scott Spezio. And Steve Kline. Now Adam Kennedy. Am I forgetting anyone? Hmm.....
What's going on in St. Louis? Is TLR that abrasive that players want to get away from him? Pujols wasn't too thrilled with him last year at the All-Star break either. Maybe TLR has run his course and should just move on.

Cards fans wil hoping Mo can accomodate Mr. Kennedy. Adios.
Felipe Lopez cna easily replace him and hopefully does. The question is who will take him?

kennedy aproached TLR much like edmonds did. he's concerned about his playing time. edmonds saw very little playing time against LHP. kennedy was told by TLR that other guys can do the job better. As for speizio, he was cut in spring training because he failed to "exhibit sufficient skill or competive ability" following a six-count complaint involving drunken driving and assault. Kline was a free agent and in his first week of work in baltimore he posted a 23.18 era. He stated then that he's miserable, and he misses a lot about the guys in StL, and the "leadership" involved in playing for TLR. The rift between Rolen and TLR started when Tony benched him against Roy Oswalt in late Sept06 because he slumped thru most all of that month. Rolen admitted lying to TLR about his shoulder, which felt worse than he was letting on. Tony didn't like it. Neither would I.

"following a six-count complaint involving drunken driving and assault."
Hmm...seems like he learned it from the best...a guy who passes out behind the wheel and sleeps through multiple cycles of green lights.

Kennedy's main issue is that he hasn't shown the patience, speed or pop that made him a really valuable #2 and #9 hitter with the Angels. As for his defense, it is solid, but he has been better this year than in most. His biggest strength is that he catches whatever he gets to.

who's concerned about abrasiveness anyway? were talking about major league baseball, right?...not tee ball.
Kennedy has played more games @ 2b than a guy who has a higher BA and FPCT, Miles. The difference between them in innings played is 40-50, Miles with 708. If Miles doesn't play 200+ between SS & 3B, Kennedy sees less playing time.

Right. Those are very comparable situations. One wrecks his car, runs, and beats up his buddy. The other falls asleep. Gimme a break.

OMG....does Adam Kennedy have a website...bc if so I want to post a comment or ask a question....One in particular would be....Dear Adam, Why do you suck so bad? St Louis doesnt need that bench riding nancy to win games anyway...He did more today against the cubs than he has his whole time with The Cardinals. I think Kennedy should be begging to stay and I think that he should take his big fat 10 million and give it to the fans of St Louis for pain and suffering of having to watch him TRY to play baseball.

When a guy is being paid 10 mil....he should have bigger strenghts than "catching whatever he gets to" Isnt that just half of what baseball is about...Last time I checked the game requires offensive skills also..... fans at Busch stadium can catch foul balls pretty well...so why dont we just take any guy (or girl) who brings his glove to the park and put a Kennedy # 7 on him

TRADE HIM....Dont you wish we could Undraft him.....# 1 pick.....I mean seriously.....cmon

"When a guy is being paid 10 mil....he should have bigger strenghts than 'catching whatever he gets to'"
I agree with you, I was just making the point that he is a solid defender who is having a great year with the glove.
BTW, where did you get the idea that Kennedy makes $10 million? His contract is for 3/10, which means an average of $3.33 million a year, which isn't much in today's baseball market.
"TRADE HIM....Dont you wish we could Undraft him.....# 1 pick....."
Have you paid any attention to your team for the last 8-10 years? Kennedy was drafted in the first round, and the Cards, after only 33 games in the majors, turned him, along with a career year from Kent Bottenfield, around and stole Jim Edmonds from the Angels. Given Edmonds' production as a Red Bird, Kennedy was worth 2 number 1 draft picks.

I'd like to see some of you candy---es come to the park with your glove and do any better,,,and talk about stealing bases. AK is 7 for 8. Felipe is 7 for 15...any questions...and he only has 5 less RBI and about 150 ab's less than Felipe...so shut your pie-holes !
