« A's Release Mike Sweeney | Main | Sabathia Compensation Situation »
I don't believe we've mentioned this yet...Eddie Bajek added the AL relievers for his projected Elias rankings. He notes that these rankings can swing quite a bit in the remaining three weeks of the season.

Marte actually hasn't been that bad as a Yankee.
He made his second appearance as a Yankee the day Joba got hurt. The bullpen was already short that day, so he was left in for almost 50 pitches. He really isn't capable of going that long in an outing, so the appearance was terrible.
The appearance resulted in a sore arm, making his next few appearances lousy. After that, the Yankees gave him some time off to recover. Since then, he's been fine.
Since the time off:
6 IP, 8 appearances, 1 run, 2 hits, 1 walk, 10 K.
And his only Yankee appearance before the overuse game:
1 IP, 2 K, 0's
I think the Yankees consider his poor stats more their fault than Marte's.

Wow. Darren Oliver as a Type A? He is a decent middle-long swingman, but wow. Doesn't given the Angels much reason to resign him.

Interesting point about Marte. I knew he was ailing but didn't realize he turned it around.

As per the disclaimer, rankings can obviously change, but it's interesting that Kyle Farnsworth just misses out on B status.

Like any reliever, a few bad appearances wreck their numbers making them look worse. Of course if he's a type A they could always opt out offer arbitration and if he walks, well they'd start stockpiling draft picks.

Yanksfan- Yea your right about Mr.Marte. The yankees should exercise his option.

I'm not sure why you believe so firmly that the Yankees will simply let Marte walk after this season. They've been after him for so long that it would be foolish for them to let him go after half a season.

Agree with cleanuphtr. I think the Yankees feel Marte is a player they never should've traded away years ago. His name comes up in rumors every year, so I don't think they'll let him go so easily.
Also, their bullpen was strong before trading for him, yet they still felt a strong need for a lefty. If they let him go, who would they replace him with? Sign Fuentes and give up a draft pick to get him?

I think its a no-brainer, Marte's option will be picked up. The Yanks pen looks strong next season with Melancon coming up to join in.

I believe that Oliver accepts arbitration from the Angels so it is a moot point, but if he does decline it then he will not be signed for any amount of money until the deadline or whatever passes where he won't cost a pick.

"The Yanks pen looks strong next season with Melancon coming up to join in." -BigYank1
The guys pitched all of 20 inn in AAA this year and you automatically throw him in the pen as a difference maker????

Have you followed Melancon at all? At all levels of the minors, the guy usually needs under 10 pitches per inning. He's been completely dominating. There were people expecting him to be in the majors months ago.
Melancon is one of the college relievers that doesn't need much time in the minors. The only reason he's spent as much time there as he has is because he needed Tommy John surgery and is building arm strength.
I'd be amazed if he's not in the majors before the end of May next year.

My only point is, can we see someone pitch in the majors before we call him dominating. the gap between AA/AAA and ml is great. I'm a Yankee fan, I hope he's great...but he has a long way to go. Minor lg stats are deceiving.

I really hope the Yankees let Marte walk (want my Indians to sign him).....$6M is a ton for a lefty setup guy...but not like the Yanks can't spend it (might be a better investment than $16M for Abreu).
Yankees could decline the option and then try and sign him longer for less annually than $6M....or go after a guy like Wil Ohman.

If bullpens could depend on impressive minor league stats, there'd be zero reason to gamble on over priced relievers.
