chad durbin is right before manny got held back he had a clear shot at anyone he wanted, but waited until someone got in front of him to make it look like he wouldve done something.

Denker probably wouldn't have gotten a fair shot anyway...

Burriss, Frandsen, Velez are all in front of him.

Glad he will get a chance with Pads.

"chad durbin is right before manny got held back he had a clear shot at anyone he wanted"

Try again. Manny is smart enough to know his importance on the Dodgers. He isn't dumb enough to start a brawl and then get the brunt of the punishment from the league.

the cubs should keep him, im sure some of his stats will go down, but if you think about it he wont be pressed to win games if in the rotation they'll will still be zambrano, harden (my cy young prediction next year, he was 10-2 in 25 starts with 180 something K's, he missed about 7-8 starts which if he pitched im guessing thats at least 3 more wins with 4 ND's, next year if he stays healthy, i think he'll be 18-3 with 249 K's, and a 2.71 era,) and ted lilly. but if the cubs dont signed him then they diffently have to put the cubs sale off for another year and persue in CC or aj burnett.

i don't know why he go so upset last night, if some was to get upset it would be Kuroda, I mean Victorino kind of over reacted over the ball. I mean they hit Russel Martin twice yesterday. If someone were to flip out it should have been Martin, but he kept his cool even though i saw him saying crap to Ruiz from time to time

There is a difference between getting hit in the knee and headhunting...

Victorino said, Hit me in the ribs, not the head.

Martin got hit 2 times last night.Myers threw over Martins head in Game 2 and Martin didn't do anything towards the phillies. So Victorino is a bit*h for cryin

The problem for the Cubs will be that they're going to pay Dempster dearly in his next contract for what will probably turn out to be his career year in 2008. Let's say he gets 3 years and $12 million per from the Cubs (assuming they resign him which I believe they will). My guess is that in three years he won't be worth half that. I hate to see teams pay players based on one great year.

Manny is a drama queen. Durbin is most likely right and it's actually a bit refreshing to have a ballplayer point something like that out. Manny is all about Manny and I don't doubt for a minute that he had an ulterior motive for playing "good teammate" last night.

Why is anyone questioning the Giants personnel decisions? They've proven time and time again that they know what they're doing, just look at the Barry Zito contract. What a great signing! The fact that they suck right now surely doesn't have anything to do with the teams current management, it must just be bad karma from the Bonds era or something. Yep, those guys in the Giants front office sure are smart.

"harden (my cy young prediction next year, he was 10-2 in 25 starts with 180 something K's, he missed about 7-8 starts which if he pitched im guessing thats at least 3 more wins with 4 ND's, next year if he stays healthy, i think he'll be 18-3 with 249 K's, and a 2.71 era,)"

IF he stays healthy. BIG IF.

I hate to be pessimistic, but I don't see him staying healthy the whole season. The odds are against him. He had about 13 starts combined in 2006-07...

However, I'd like him to patch together a full season and win the NL CY, as an A's fan. Always nice to see guys who play/ed for your team getting the hardware.

Actually Martin got hit once by an offspeed pitch.

Victorino had a ball fly about a foot over his head. Which only if he jumped up would have hit him in the head.

Denker may not have been given a fair shot, but the solution to that is to give him a fair shot, not throw him away for nothing. The guy was a decent hitter with some pop on a team with few decent hitters and even less pop. Seriously, a team like the Giants can't afford to let players like Denker go, especially when there was no reason to let him at all.

IF Harden stays healthy ... that's a good one.

Since the day the guy came up we have known that Harden can be the most dominating pitcher in the game. When healthy he is just lights out good.

You have ONE season in the last SIX where Harden made over 30 starts. Compare that to 3 seasons where he made less than 15 starts.

Sorry to say it, but the odds of Harden playing enough to win the Cy Young are about zero.

That's not to say he isn't a great pick-up for the Cubs. $7.5m is a fair price if you can squeak out 20 quality starts.

Harden is the ultimate low risk/high reward guy. If healthy you are looking at a $20m/year pitcher.

As talented as Harden is, and as much as I love watching him pitch for my team, I don't think he ever gets close to a Cy Young. Even if he makes 25 starts, which is a gamble with him and below average for everyone else that would be in the conversation, his innings pitched alone would probably keep him out of the running. In any given game he won't throw more than 115 pitches (that's the max he pitched for the Cubs this year), and that start only got him through 5 innings. He just flat out can't go deep into games. He racks up pitch counts, especially in the early innings, way too often, and the Cubs org. won't risk elevating his pitch count very often, if at all. He's a great bargain at 7 mil, and if he could stay healthy he'd be a contender every year for the cy, especially in the NL. I suspect they'll be especially careful with him during the early months when it's still cold as hell in Chicago.
You guys think that maybe Lowe waits to see what Dempster gets and then starts negotiating? I know Lowe's got more of a track record and his performance this post-season so far has been good, so I would think he'll get more than dempster. The deep-pocketed teams that miss out on Sabathia will probably be willing to overpay for either one(yankees, Dodgers, braves). I suspect Dempster takes a bit of a discount to stay with the cubs, but that contract will still, I think, give Lowe something of a starting point. What do you guys think?

Someone on the Phillies had to be expecting that to happen. Honestly, they should have thrown at Utley in Game 2.

"Actually Martin got hit once by an offspeed pitch."

Martin was hit twice yesterday, not once.

Martin could have gotten out of the way of Moyers pitch...that was slower than a Zito fastball, but he didn't even try!

Also, it was B.S. for Fox to say that Matt Cain hit Manny in the head, Manny CLEARLY ducked into that pitch. If he takes one step back, he doesn't get hit.

"Which only if he jumped up would have hit him in the head."

...

I'm glad to know you feel it's important to remind us that if you jump while a ball is flying over your head it may end up hitting you.

"Martin could have gotten out of the way of Moyers pitch...that was slower than a Zito fastball, but he didn't even try!"

Uh, Moyer's fastball is slower than Zito's. That said, they hit the guy twice after throwing at his throat in Game 2. He was also walked on four pitches. They do that today and it is Manny coming up to drive him in.

"Also, it was B.S. for Fox to say that Matt Cain hit Manny in the head, Manny CLEARLY ducked into that pitch. If he takes one step back, he doesn't get hit."

What is your initial reaction when something is flying at your head? DUCK! Cain threw way up and in and hit Manny in the head. There is no other way around it.

nostocks, you are correct.

A team that needs power badly could not afford to throw away a young, decent-fielding 2B who could have been a solid .285, 15 HR/75 RBI everyday guy. Instead, they tossed him away so they could cobble together something from Frandsen and Velez?

Pathetic.

"What is your initial reaction when something is flying at your head? DUCK! Cain threw way up and in and hit Manny in the head. There is no other way around it."

If you look at the replay, Manny ducks FAR down and gets hit. So Matt threw IN but NOT way up.

And YES there is a way around it...BACK UP!

I hate Manny more than anyother player in the game. Hes a joke and a coward.
