| Indians Rumors: Valverde, Street, Hudson »

SI.com's Jon Heyman has several new blog posts up. Let's take a look.
- The Yankees planned offers in the four-year, $60MM range for A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe, but that's not sufficient for either pitcher. Burnett wants five years, and Lowe presumably at least $16MM per year and perhaps five as well.
- The Indians, Mets, and Yankees are in on Orlando Hudson, who wants a five-year, $50MM deal. The Dodgers are another possibility. The New York teams would have to do some shuffling to make room for Hudson. Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported the Indians' interest yesterday evening. The Tribe is also in on Orlando Cabrera, according to Yahoo's Tim Brown.
- Heyman says the Angels will make a "fair proposal with a deadline" for Mark Teixeira, with Miguel Cabera's eight-year, $153MM deal as a baseline. This echoes recent columns from Ken Rosenthal and Bill Ladson.
Yankees should forget Lowe and Burnett, and concentrate on Sabathia and Teixeira. Move Swisher to center

I would like the yankees to get Tex. But 8 years at more then 153 million is alot. I dont see the yankees or the red sox's going that high in years on him.

Yep, Yanks should not offer 5 yrs to Burnett or 16M to Lowe. Let other teams suck those deals.

The Yankees should take the rish with Sheets on a 3 year/high money contract and continue the pursuit of Sabithia.
Lowe and Burnett just want too much.
I'm in the minority though.

Orlando Hudson? :/

5 year 50mil for Orlando Hudson? LOL.

The Yankees can't put all the teams eggs in the C.C. Sabathia basket. I think they should go after Lowe as well and forget about Burnett and all his injuries. I like the idea of going after Tex.
So why not Tex, C.C. and Lowe?

i find it hard to believe that those would be the offers theyd make. with all the thoughts that the agents have given they know that those offers are low. theyre first priority is pitching and they have a tendency to over pay, but then these too offers which are lower than the demands? just makes me think that theyll go hard after Tex and take a chance on a Sheets or maybe make a trade somewhere.

Well, if Yankees are actually going for Hudson, that would mean the end of Cano era (unless if he doesn't sign) in Bronx. I am excited to hear about the trade possibilities, but Cano... I mean, leaving out the bad April stats, the man was decent.

I think that the sox get tex, salty, and burnett. thats my pediction

tim, would the dodgers look at hudson as a SS instead of furcal, or would it be along with furcal?
Posted by: lakersdodgersyankees4life | November 20, 2008 at 04:30 PM
Why am I not seeing any rumors for the cardinals being interested in O. Hud? they are looking for middle infield and there going to be cheap asses and not look into furcal or o.hud?

hes a second baseman.
if we lose furcal i think dejesus jr plays and hu plays a little also. then we have delwyn young play second and dewitt play third...only if manny resigns
kemp or second
dejesus or first
loney
manram
andre either
martin
young
dewitt
if you lose manny
dejesus
martin
loney
kemp
dunn -
either
young
dewitt
dunn only if we trade pierre i think he got a very raw deal if he were signed for 5mm i dont think any one would of been too upset right now.

What r the odds the Yanks sign all of:
CC, Tex, Hudson, Lowe, Burnett?
And pull off a miraculous trade for Peavy?
(Heck, they probably would still find a way to lose in the playoffs)

Slim. CC & Tex should be the tops of their list then attempt to make a move for Peavy. if no trade could be made go for Lowe. i think he will sign late. maybe into January. if they can get him on a short(ish) deal a bring back Pettitte it will give the young guys more time to develop.

Probably because Orlando Hudson is a solid 2B, nothing more. He has had 2 season ending injuries in 2 years. He is on the wrong side of 30. The Cards are smart. I think that covers it. Funny how the Mets fans can't stand Luis Castillo yet they want to give Hudson 5/50, and replace Castillo's bad contract with an even worse one. Sigh.

@pskip13: The quota for type A/B free agents is definitely less than 5, so the Yankees would not be allowed to sign all 5 of the guys you named. If they were losing 5 type A/B FAs then they would be able to.

delwyn young isnt a infielder, hes a right fielder at best, at worst a 4th outfielder. besides he had surgery, forgot for what, but wont be ready to the start of season

Dang quota....
And about the whole "losing in the playoffs" comment
It was a joke
I'm a Tigers fan:
I know all about high salary teams performing pathetically
(Just saying this so Yankees fans don't eat me alive...)

After reading the artidle it does real seem to have any meat to it. I can't see the Yanks wanting to do this deal, especially since O. Hudson is 6 years older than Cano and would demand $10 mil per for 5 years which would be double what Cano is set to ear. In 3 years you would have a 37 yr old 3B, a 38 yr old SS and a 34 yr old 2B. Seems like a step in the wrong direction. I can't see Cash wanting to make a move. I think the writer is just throwing around names.

Torgen
The limit on free agents is when there are 62 or less and there are 69 so the yanks can sign 5. I feel:
CC
Burnett or Peavy
Pettitte if $14 mil
Tex if no CC, if sox sign Tex then Manny is a definite.
Prediction starting rotation and lineup:
CC
Peavy (Cano,Kennedy,Veres+5mil.)
Burnett
Wang
Joba
Damon CF
Jeter SS
Manny LF
ARod 3B
Matsui DH
Nady RF
Posada C
Swisher 1B
Hudson 2B

Keep reading all these Yankee wish lists the last few weeks that have manny and Lowe on them, then the DL guys like Burnett and sometimes even Sheets. This is on top of the ancient team that the yanks already field and I just got to ask from a fan of baseball, not a Yankee disliker, just a guy that loves the game:
what if they don't make the playoffs again with CC, Burnett and Manny, or maybe substitute low for Burnett and also bringing back petite? peavy is out, they don't have the pieces to get him without losing everything they have young guy and cheaply paid/controllable wise.

"The Yankees planned offers in the four-year, $60MM range for A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe, but that's not sufficient for either pitcher"
If the Yankees do this they gain some of my respect. finally they aint overpaying for a pitcher. Still Lowe shouldnt be signed for 4 years. I doubt he wants to play in NY anyway.

johns,
The yankees do have the pieces to get peavy. If you seen the report acouple of days ago that the padres gM said they could work out a deal without Hughes in it. Also the padres dont want Cano. There is no way Manny is coming to the yankees, i dont want him and he would make the team worse. I hope that the yankees only sign CC and Tex. I dont want Andy back. I think we should then try to trade for Peavy. But the must is Tex, i think we need him more then CC. The yankees lineup would be nothing without a big hitter behind A-rod.

I thought the quotas were a sliding scale, not an all-or-nothing.
