Heyman sounded a little less idiotic this time.

I don't think there will be any denying the Yankees making a jaw-dropping offer to CC. I say this because Cash didn't pull the trigger on a Santana deal when Hank wanted him to and we missed out on the strikeout/power ace that the Yankees needed badly. The Yankees are lucky enough to have another opportunity at a power ace and there is little doubt in my mind that they will make CC leave a lot of money on the table if he signs with somebody else. Not to mention the Union is going to put an incredible amount of pressure on Sabathia to take the highest offer.

Lets offer free swinging Uribe arbitration so we can get a sandwich pick.

Well if you work for SI and get to write an article everyday, you're bound to do well once in a while.
Then again there is little new info here except denying the Matsui rumors.

Yeah I don't really know who in their right mind would want Matsui. He's 35 and not getting any younger. 2 of the last 3 years he's gotten big injuries that have kept him out for a while. He's getting paid 13m for his last year on this contract so that might help his ability to get traded but I don't see it happening. Any suggestions on who would want/need him?

Denying the Matsui rumors isn't news, it's stating the obvious.
Matsui missed a large part of two of the last three seasons and has had knee surgery after two consecutive seasons.
I'd be amazed if they could get anything of value for Matsui.

RED SOX DYNASTY!-
I'm not disagreeing with you about them having to eat some of the contract. However, aren't you the guy who, yesterday, was saying that the Red Sox could trade Lowell without eating any of of the contract AND get back good prospects?

35-36,
Lowell plays for Boston though. That alone triples his value.

I'm just wondering, but why is that?

It is a joke Arod - it is pointing fun at how RSD thinks that every Red Sox player has trade value of Hank Aaron in his prime.
Matsui has pretty much the same value as Lowell - aging players that are an injury risk, both teams would have to eat salaries for them to be moved.

And seriously for the White sox...there has to be someone better than Juan Uribe out there for the utility guy...
Posted by: B3NG4L | November 04, 2008 at 01:36 PM
Ohh, wow I'm dumb haha. But that's true, both teams would have to eat at least half of their salaries if they want to move either player.

To be fair concerning the injury prone remarks concerning Matsui, one of those missed seasons was an injury completely unrelated to his age. His missed 2006 season was entirely a fluke injury in what was one of the uglier injuries I've seen in the MLB in the last decade or two.
While I agree that his trade value is nil, I think it's more to do his large salary than anything. His numbers have declined a bit, but not to an extent that I'd call him terrible by any means. I think that if the Yankees ate his salary, he could net a couple low to mid-level prospects.

Joe Crede had a good start last season. He was only signed for one year, and at a much lower price than either Matsui or Lowell. Yet he had no trade value.
Neither Matsui nor Lowell will be worth much in a trade. Matsui would be the easier of the two to move, considering they have similar salaries but Matsui has a shorter commitment.

On the other hand, Lowell is a gold glove worthy third baseman and Matsui is allegedly on the fast train to DHville. That would make Lowell a potential value to the AL or NL and limit Matsui to an AL team that actually needs a DH.
