« Twins Rumors: Kouzmanoff, Wigginton, Cantu | Main | Rays Met With Giambi »

Astros Pushing Tejada

Yahoo's Jeff Passan talked to one GM who said the Astros are pushing Miguel Tejada hard.  Problem is, there are no apparent suitors right now.  Also, while Ed Wade will make every effort not to trade Jose Valverde, he wouldn't rule it out.

astros need to trade him to the twins for a young pitcher. Then they can ship wigginton and clear cap. Valverde stays put. Hampton is the only addition they can afford.

Seems like a decent target for the Twins, who if they acquire a better shortstop can always move Tejeda to third base.

the twins can't put tejada at third? i know he's not what he once was, but i think he could rack up the RBI's hitting behind morneau, plus he wouldn't cost all that much in terms of players.

One question, John.

Who then plays third base and shortstop for the 'Stros?

It seems as though they'd have to go sign replacements, and there goes your money again.

wrong, wrong, wrong. absolutely not. tejeda has no place on the twins, ESPECIALLY if they think they can actually get something in return for him. hopefully, after years and years of repeating the same mistakes, the twins' FO will realize how stupid the idea of bringing tejada in is (and from the look of recent posts, they do).

That's pretty funny...three posters who all list the Twins in less than two minutes flat.

I'm not saying I like the trade, I'm an astros season ticket holder. The problem is ticket prices are the same, drayton is cheap, people are giving up on the season tickets, and we cant afford big name players. Tejada is 13M coming off the salary cap. The new shortstop will come inside the short-handed farm system.

I watched Tejada all season long, and i can tell you we personally made a huge mistake. Trading away Scott and Patton lost us our only trading chips. Tejada's power is steadily coming down, and his batting average isn't exactly the highest. If we can gain a young pitcher from Minnesota, I say go for it. Drayton is happy and so are the Twins. They get an improved shortstop, since they may actually be fighting for a playoff spot...

no, that is another example of "hey, how about we trade crappy player A and/or crappy player B from my team for awesome player C on this team?"

i've been guilty of it before myself, but this does not help the twins at all. he'll be off the roster faster than lamb, monroe, white, batista, hernandez, etc.

I hear the Orioles are looking for a SS.. =D

Ed Wade is an idiot. Getting Tejada right before the Mitchell Report came out was a world class dumb move by the Astros. Drayton McLane is the worst owner in baseball.

Tejada for one year at around $8-10 million (depending on how much cash the 'Stros kick in) isn't really a bad back-up plan for the team that loses out on Furcal or Cabrera. One thing to consider is that Tejada, for the first time ever, is skipping winter ball this year...so it's possible the extra rest this off-season will prevent the late-season fade we saw last year.

Madman, I'm not sure we can blame Wade for this one.McLane wanted Tejada long before Wade was hired...I'm guessing the order to trade for Tejada when they did came from McLane, who wouldn't want to suffer the bad PR from trading for a guy that he knew was in the Mitchell report. By trading for him before it came out, McLane could plead ignorance.

Wade is so bad. Remember who put together Ryan Howard? Cole Hamels? Who picked Shane in the rule 5 draft? It's not his fault..trust me. If you're calling Tejada a crappy player, you're crazy. He can still sell tickets, something the Twins need. Also, like I said, you're giving us a non proven prospect. Key word: Prospect. Tejada is a proven veteran who can help the Twins when push comes to shove. Worse casenario, you lose a prospect. That's all it is, we know the 'Stros won't get a lot in return. It's a salary eater.

i was making a generalization regarding the twins burning desire to sign free agents or trade for players who are past their moment. we've done it a hundred times in the past (i mentioned a few examples), and we don't seem to be breaking this nasty habit any time soon. however, one of our pitchers is too much to ask, especially with his salary.

however, if it is indeed a prospect for him (key word: prospect), AND the `stros pick up some of his salary, i say sure, go for it.

but, all this is pointless `cause it's not gonna happen...

I would give this a 20% chance of happening. It seems the stros are eager to move him and the Twins show little/some interest at the very least. The astros have the same problem, getting players past there prime. See Mike Hampton. Let's see how this plays out and let the general managers work the magic.

seeing as the Twins play on turf i would rule this little rumor out. Knees dont fair well on turf.............tejada has old knees...........
