The Padres?
Eckstein's career is headed the way of the Edmonds.

David Eckstein to the Padres is exactly the type of signing San Diego fans have come to expect from Kevin Towers. I've been waiting for it all off-season and I was even more convinced it would happen when Khalil got traded. There were whispers of it last off-season before Tadahito Iguchi was signed and I fully plan on seeing this happen. Next year, he'll be playing SS and leading off at Petco. He should see a solid amounts of runs come his way with his decent OBP and batting in front of Brian Giles and Adrian Gonzalez.

Not sure why the Pirates are intersted would rather see Durham or Grudzeilanek

There's no reason why Eckstein can't be the same mediocre player at Petco than he has been anywhere else. With Edmonds, his slide came when the Petco Cavern ate all of his HR's and 2B's. Not to mention, there's a 5-year age difference.

Eckstein gets a bad rap from the statheads because the media portrays him as a "scrappy" player. He has posted above-average OBPs in every year but one and has played most of his career out of position at short. I wouldn't mind him being the 2B on the Dodgers if they resigned Furcal and let Blake go.

Pirates won't sign Grudz because he wants to play for a team that will compete for the Championship, otherwise he would have stay in Kansas City.

Is there any chance the Royals could be one of the 2 teams not listed? They need a veteran second baseman to pair with Aviles. Or play him at short and move Aviles to second.

If the padres sign Eckstein, it will be a perfect fit he will be the second baseman, leadoff type hitter, and shortstop and the Padres can trade Peavy for Adenhart, Wood, low a prospect Sullovin, and Willits

Eckstein should get a 1 to a 2 year deal
