I'll keep this updated as more comes in, but for now these are your Saturday links...
- Patrick Newman found that Akinori Otsuka will work out in front of reps from all MLB teams next month. Apparently Padres GM Kevin Towers is interested if Otsuka's healthy.
- Roch Kubatko knows there's pitching talent coming from the minors, but he doesn't love the current Orioles rotation and expects them to add two more starters.
- The difference between 69 and 72 in 2009 wins isn't worth much to the Orioles, Peter Schmuck writes.
- The Red Sox move on after missing out on Mark Teixeira.
- Eric Wedge doesn't seem bothered by the Yankees' big acquisitions.
- Vernon Wells knows how hard it will be to compete now that former-teammate A.J. Burnett's in pinstripes along with a couple other big names.
- Keith Law says the Randy Johnson signing moves the Giants "toward 2009 respectability, if not outright contention."
- Vlae Kershner doesn't like the possibility of Garret Anderson on the A's.
- Bleed Cubbie Blue argues that Adam Dunn's patience-power combination would work well for the Cubs. Last week Dunn said he thinks so too.
- Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi revealed his favorite meal and dream date in a Q&A with the Sporting News.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Odds And Ends: Otsuka, Orioles, Johnson:
Baldelli would be a great add for the Sox. I hope they do not get him. He could solve their problem in CF on the road.

I thought JP was married.

He is... he was basically kidding around.

Dunn would look good in Cubbie Blue.. yeah?

I'm guessing that JP's dream date isn't a quiet dinner with Adam Dunn discussing his hatred of baseball.
Since when is a GMs favorite food and dream date a rumor.(LOL)
Hate to see Dunner with the Cubbies, but he would be a monster there, their OF defense though would be unspeakably horrible unless they had a CF that could just go get it.

"He is... he was basically kidding around."
I was too. :-)
I'll reiterate: Garret Anderson + A's = DO NOT WANT. He's a better asset to the A's when he's wearing an Angels uniform.

If they had Dunn for RF they could easily (you'd think) let Pie play CF.

too bad I rly hope dunn doesnt go to the cubs. He has a great OBP, and better power numbers than tiexiera, and the only downside really is his strikeouts. He could play 1b for a few years then DH if papi has declined too much to resign after his contract. I prefered dunn all along to tex. suprised he hasnt drawn a lot of interest

That would be a great move for the padres if we get Aki Otsuka

I meant to mention b4 i wanted him to sign with the sox, sorry

Dunn would be great for us. Go get him Jimmy.

It makes sense that SF would now be a contender because this acquisition improves there biggest weakness.....there offense.

Honestly, the Padres should give Otsuka a minor league deal simply because of the haul he stole for them from Texas.

Funny. His numbers against the A's don't agree with you.
