MLB.com's Todd Zolecki notes that the Phillies still have a few holes in their bullpen. The club has expressed interest in Joe Beimel, Will Ohman, and Randy Flores this offseason, but those guys are still seeking relatively expensive (and lengthy) contracts.
"They're looking for the multiyear deals," GM Ruben Amaro said Wednesday. "It's more an issue of length than dollars, I think."
Zolecki believes that the Phillies may ultimately decide to solve their bullpen issues from within. Chan Ho Park could make for a useful long reliever if he's unable to crack the starting rotation. Kyle Kendrick and J.A. Happ might also have to settle for bullpen roles and should provide the Phillies with a couple of serviceable middle relievers until left-hander J.C. Romero returns from suspension.

Drew,
You might wanna fix the phillies "wholes" in the first line.

Flores is looking for an expensive/lengthy contract? Hope Todd was just talking about Ohman and Biemel when he said that, Flores is not that good.

Happ more so than Kendrick. They need a lefty due to J.C Romeros little inncident.

Thanks, Renegade. I'm a stickler for those kinds of things. But, damn it, "holes" and "wholes" is the one that always gets me. Here's to being a moron.

Go with Happ-it'll be cheaper.

^ spoken just like the Phillies management.

Just put them all (Happ, Kendrick & Park) in the bullpen and sign Sheets!

Biemel and Flores just aren't worth what they're asking. Ohamn appears to be a long shot at this point. So why not stay in house?

Hahaha Phillys Phinest, I am agreeing with you.

aaron and Philly's finest,
i agree with you 100%. Take the money that would be spent on the bullpen (3-4MM), the money earmarked for a RH bat (3-4MM) and the money saved when Ryan loses his arb case (4MM) and give sheets the 2 year deal he wants or one plus an option with fairly reachable incentives (180IP) 1 year for 9MM with an option at 10MM for next year then the rotation this year would be:
1-Hamels
2-Sheets
3-Myers
4-Moyer
5-Blanton
Next year's rotation could be
1-Hamels
2-Sheets
3-Moyer
4-Carrasco
5-Blanton
We're set at SP for the next several years then. Do it now RUBEN!!!

Everyone knows that Park being used as a SP cannot end well.
Check out his career performance in Chavez Ravine vs everywhere else. Ridiculous
Also, Kendrick isn't a good option IMO until he gets a credible 3rd pitch. Throwing thigh high "sinkers" all the time at 91 caught up with him
I would hope they give Carrasco a legit shot to win the job if he pitches well enough to deserve it. That would allow Happ to help out against lefties while JC is on the shelf. Later on in the season, they could use him as a starter option if Carlos is reaching his innings limits
