| Rays Interested In Morgan Ensberg »

Here's the latest from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
- Jeff Moorad's acquistion of the Padres does not affect the likelihood of a Jake Peavy trade, according to Rosenthal's source. There have been no recent conversations with the Cubs about Peavy.
- The Phillies had been confident of signing Ty Wigginton before the Orioles offered two years. The Phils are still mulling Nomar Garciaparra and Rich Aurilia, with the Giants also in on Aurilia. The Phillies are out on Will Ohman.
- Braden Looper is receiving interest from Baltimore, but he prefers the NL. The Brewers are not optimistic about signing Looper despite a recent conversation with one of his agents (Tom Haudricourt believes the Brewers are "laying in the weeds" for when the right pitcher comes along). Looper is Plan B behind Randy Wolf for the Dodgers, and not a candidate to return to the Cardinals (who are apparently out of money). One other team known to have interest in Looper is the Pirates.
Are you serious about the Cards being out of money? Where did it all go? I don't remember the Cards signing any big name free agents!

I dont think the cardinals are "out of money" i just think theres nobody out there they want to take a chance on. Come Spring Training, if management decides we need a starter, i guarentee MO will spend the money to make that happen or make the necessary trade regardless of financial specifics.

or anyone for that matter.

He probably wants to stay in the NL because he would get destroyed in the AL East.
I actually think the Dodgers, Brewers and maybe the White Sox would be the best suitors.

Thank god the Phills didn't sign Wiggy. I wouldn't be able to root for him if they did.

"Phillies are out on Ohman"
Are the Tigers in now that Parrish is gone? They HAVE to sign one of Ohman or Beimel.

The Cubs traded all of their stud prospect that we going to being them Peavy already. All they have to offer is Vitters and Marshall.

If they're willing to include Vitters and Marshall, I'd feel pretty confident that both teams could figure out a deal.

"The Phillies are out on Will Ohman."
Thats good to hear. I hope to see him back with the braves next year. Not only a great pitcher but a very likable character in the clubhouse.

How many times do sports writer have to say "No news on Peavy" before they realize that if it's not NEWs, then they shouldn't be writing about it?

wait a second. isn't hadricourt the guy who had pujols seventh on his mvp ballot?
fool.

How can the Brewers still be laying in the weeds?
There are like three adequate potential starting options left in Looper, Wolf and the longshot, Mulder.
I think Mulder would actually be a very good fit in Milwaukee though, he's the kind of guy they should go after.
If they want mediocrity, they already have a whole bucket of that in Jeff Suppan.

To be honest I'm not too optimistic about the Cubs getting Peavy. That contract is awfully backloaded.
Could come back to haunt the team two or three years down the road.

I really don't believe anything Rosenthal says, especially when he talks about the Cards.

Out of money, did it all go into the two lefties, that's ridiculuous, Cardinals just don't wanna pony up the dough because they've been burned in the past. I'm getting tired of Mozelik being a tightwad, thought he was gonna be aggressive. The only big signing they tried to make was Fuentes and he never was worth that much.

You can't complain about Mo being a tightwad in one sentence, then saying we were going to over pay for Fuentes. The fact is, in this market, if you want an type A or B, or even some guy that aren't even on that level your going to have to shell out more money than the player is worth.
I'd love to see us sign sheets, the price is right for the talent but it's gotta come down for it to be a smart move due to his history.
Also why not sign Orlando Hudson. Kennedy blows, it gives us a top of the order bat to get on in front of albert, ludwick and ankiel. I know they dont want to spend the money, but it make sense. Then deal ankiel for a solid 4-5 starter for the rotation so we can get piniero out of there and our team is set as long as the perez/motte combo can close a game.
Keep in mind we don't always need the best talent on the field with Tony on the bench as long as the right pieces are there, I trust MO to put them in place.

Rumor has it that the Cubs will be signing Dunn. What's the truth in that?
Posted by: kpietsch36 | February 05, 2009 at 03:45 PM
I'm tired of this BS with the sale of the Cubs. Theres a new rumor out there that the Cubs could be going after Orlando Hudson. But again its pending on the completion of the sale of the Cubs. Everybodies getting better but us. Another rumor is that the Astros are going after Adam Dunn. This sale of the Cubs is nothing but BS, everybody say the sale will happen so WHY can't the Ricketts make any decisions. We've cut payroll and still can't do anything BS.
