According to a press release, the Cubs released catcher Paul Bako and reliever Mike Stanton today. So, it looks like Koyie Hill has the team's backup catcher job.
Bako, 36, hit .364/.400/.515 in 35 spring plate appearances. Stanton, 41, allowed six runs and 13 hits in 8.3 innings.

So does that mean the Padres have already signed Stanton?

I was kind of looking forward to a Bako reunion. But Hill does deserve it.

I am glad Hill is the the back up and not just because of his comeback from his horrible hand & fingers injury. He earned it.

How much do we have to pay Bako for playing in AZ for two months?

I feel bad for the idiot GM that signs Bako after his inflated ST stats

Wow, I am so relieved. It's not just that Bako is such an average to under-average catcher- it's also that he is so Bako-esque. Something about his demeanor does not breed confidence in the viewing of his efforts. Even his facial expressions used to make me nervous when he played for the Cubs years ago.

Bako is 36?....We will see him on the Giants. Sabean loves the older men

Paul Bako is unbelievable. He's played in the majors in every season since 1998, and yet he's completely SUCKED in each and every year. We're talking about a guy with a career line of .231/.305/.317 that strikes out in 26.7% of his at bats. He's posted a wOBA over .300 just once. I get that defense matters, but Paul Bako is a freaking joke. At least Koyie Hill has flashed some hitting ability in AAA, and he just isn't Paul Bako. I hate Paul Bako.

That joke is no longer valid. Sorry.

Cubs were in a tough position, Hank White was not a viable option despite his .294 average laste year it was only in 120 ABs. He is a worse hitter than Bako. Just hope Hill can do a good job.

I'm not pinning much hope to a back up catcher on his hitting. If any of them were good hitters, they would not be back ups. I understand you were just comparing the hitting between the back ups though, no biggie. All we can hope is for Soto's back up to call a good game (or be able to get signals from the bench), stop everything from getting behind him, throw out a runner now and again and get a hit here and there.
I think Koyie can do that.

I thought the joke was funny scribble so in a sense, it still is valid. :]
