The Indians designated Luis Vizcaino for assignment, according to the team's Twitter. Vizcaino was acquired by the Indians earlier in the year to help their struggling bullpen, but walked more than a batter per inning in his 11 games with the club.

The Cubs trading Marquis for Vizcaino is probably the worst trade Hendry has made during the offseason, even worse than the DeRosa trade. Why trade an innings eater for a terrible and costy reliever who only thew 3 innings for the club? This trade will be made out to be even worse if Marquis makes the NL All Star team like some have suggested or if the Cubs have another injury, and if Marquis gets Type B status, well then:
Cubs: get 4 mill and 3 innings for
Rockies: All star pitcher plus Supp 1st rounder.
Yup, one of the worst trades that Hendry has made, and that's saying something.
Oh, and I can see Vizcaino do something similar to Juan Rincon: clear waivers, refuse to go to Triple-A, then sign with another minor league team to possibly get another shot.

Welcome to the Julian Tavarez throw-around vagabond club, Luis.
Yes, the Rangers are a lovely idea. Arlington is especially nice to relievers DFA'd by a last place team who give up 10 homers in 46 innings like he did in 2008.

"Cubs: get 4 mill and 3 innings for

The cubs starting pitching has been very good so I dont even understand how its a bad trade. The idea was to get Marquis out of chicago because he cost too much. Plus his second half numbers are tradtionally awful.
Next, type B status would be second round pick. Also any team that offers Marquis arbitration (most likely around 8 or 9 million) would likely be looking for a new GM the next day.

Um, no, it's a supplementary first round pick.
Somehow, I can see Colorado offering that for Marquis next year merely because the way he's been a stopper for the rotation. Maybe he does do awful in the second half, but the way the Rockies are just playing in fundamentals, I doubt he does too bad.

See here for the explanation about the supp 1st round pick.

Yeah I was wrong. I still cant see any offering arbitration. If he gets a raise he will be due in the area of 10 million. In this economy Jason Marquis will not get that much money. Hes a back end starter, nothing more.

Marquis had a very sub-par year and a big salary to clear. It was the only real way for the Cubs to dump payroll without damaging their core.

And it's not like the Cubs' rotation has struggled without him. As it is they have six guys who could potentially outpitch him on any given day. It would have been nice to get something of greater value for him, but as he was coming off of a rather unspectacular year and was owed $9 mil for this year, the only way to get anything decent in return would have been to eat more of his salary or take on a contract even larger than Vizcaino's.

Considering how far deep Barmes was in the clubhouse the past year prior to this season, I wonder if Marquis would have been enough to land him instead of Vizcaino...

Vizcaino actually didn't pitch that bad when he was throwing strikes (oppenents didn't hit him all that well).
The walks killed him....as they have ALL Tribe relievers this year.
Can we fire Chuck Hernanedez already!!!??!?!?!? Good grief.
When the TIGERS fire you, there's a good reason. Guy is a stiff and destroys pitchers (see Verlander). Verlander was probably doing backflips when he found out Hernandez was canned as pitching coach.
