I don't really like the idea of a Moneyball movie anyway. I think the target audience is a bit too specific, and its not going to fare well. It's banking on a massive turnout from baseball fans. It's just not a profitable movie idea IMO.

Agree with you melonis. Outside of baseball fans this movie has little to no appeal to anybody. Maybe that's why they cast Brad Pitt as the lead.

Penny for pretty sure won't be going anywhere now unless somebody really wants to over pay, not that it won't happen the closer to the deadline gets and Penny's effectiveness increases like it has been lately, but really doubt it happening.
Not to say that the Phillies, Mets, Brewers, or even Rangers since the pitching they have now seems to be failing some as the lead is dropping won't want that extra guy to put them over and really over pay, but Boston needs him more with Matsuzaka DL'd now for at least the next month plus and hopefully longer.
Can't see the Mets ever trading Wright, he just seems to be the poster guy of what the Mets really are all about. Also can't see anybody really giving up as much for Reyes, or even Beltran as the Mets would seek in return for what they mean to them. Wright would draw a fortune, but he just means too much to them.
Moneyball had a chance, but Brad Pitts can take a hike and ruined it anyway.

Inglorious Bastards looks fantastic, I had not heard of him starring in a money ball movie.....any way Eric Wedge is not the Indians problem. It could be that Fausto Carmona sucks, Kerry Wood struggles,Derosa struggled out the gate, Jhonny has been below his talent level, Pronk is an injury risk, Sizemore is injured, Westbrook is always coming off an injury, thier relief core is performing below their talent, Matt Laporta has not emerged huge, Cliff struggled out the gate....basically everyone on the team except V-Mart has had some problem or another. ERIC WEDGE is just a manager, he can only be successful if the team stays reasonably healthy and preforms close to their own level.

Wedge is most definitely A problem for the Indians. Is he the only problem? No, of course not. But this team has underperformed 3 of the last 4 seasons under Wedge. He has to be held accountable for that.
And Westbrook is not 'always' coming off an injury. 2007 and last year were the only two times he's ever been on the DL.
part of the problems for players is Wedge. No one knows where they're gonna play. He's like a little kid playing a video game. The Indians bring up LaPorta but Wedge decides to bench him in favor of Ben Francisco.....awesome move.
Players like Barfield and Marte were top prospects/great young players when acquired. Under Wedge they've absolutely bombed. Other than Cabrera and Choo, no hitters have improved under Wedge. They've all gone backwards or stayed the same (like Martinez).
This team has struggled out of the gate every year but 2 under Wedge (only 2 April's were above .500, 2006 and 2007). He doesn't get his players ready to start the season, and that is the MAIN thing a manager is suppose to do. Get your players ready to play.
He's failed miserably in that regard and needs to go.
He's had 7 years and made the playoffs once. In the same amount of time Hargrove made 5 playoffs (2 World Series) and in half the time Charlie Manuel made 1 postseason.
Wedge has had too many opportunities as it is. Something needs to change if they want to win and it starts with the manager (Derek Shelton needs to go too....and probably Willis...though the bullpen coach, Chuck Hernandez should first).

"Agree with you melonis. Outside of baseball fans this movie has little to no appeal to anybody. Maybe that's why they cast Brad Pitt as the lead."
I think the bigger problem is whether Moneyball would have really have been that appealing to anyone but hardcore baseball fans.
Would the casual fan that follows solely his team really be interested in a movie about the Oakland Athletics and sabermetrics?
I just can't imagine in this age of special effects and watered down plots that a movie about statistics in baseball would work too well.

Cleveland will regret letting Wedge go as he will have a job within days of his release! This is not the managers fault.

Yeah I really can't see how they'd make Moneyball a solid movie.
I also questioned the move to star Brad Pitt. They should have gone after a bunch of no-names or lesser actors. No matter who was starring in it, the 'die-hard' baseball fans would have gone to see it.
Even with Pitt, I can't see any girls going to see this movie.

Wedge will have a job as a hotdog vendor.
He's a terrible manager and has been since day 1. I said when they named him the manager over Skinner that it was a terrible move and stand by that.

Not sure how they can regret letting a guy go that's been to the playoffs once in 7 years....

why would the Mets even consider trading David Wright? Are they that broke? Outside of similar star level players, they can still get a buttload for him.
Posted by: nostocksjustbonds | June 22, 2009 at 02:14 PM
Yeah that's a newsflash - trading David Wright? That's insane. Reyes MAYBE, but certainly not Wright.

It makes no sense for the Mets to trade Reyes or Wright honestly. The core must be broken!

"Yeah that's a newsflash - trading David Wright? That's insane. Reyes MAYBE, but certainly not Wright."
Exactly what I thought.
There's absolutely no way that you trade David Wright. He's posted WAR's of 5.8, 4.6, 8.4 and 7.4 in the past four years, and he's on pace to post a 5.5-6.5 WAR this season in spite of his total lack of power production.
Reyes is a bit different because he's pretty inconsistent with his offense, but when he's on, that lineup can be really scary.
Then again, he's been worth 16.5 WAR in the past three years, so even if he never improves, he's still an elite shortstop.
I'd consider moving Beltran and his salary before ever moving those two guys though, and I really don't believe that you can improve a team by trading an elite young star.

What? Brad Penny is useless, like Red Sox fans.
