| Frank Thomas "Close" To Retiring »

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com calls this one of the slowest-moving trade markets in a while, but provides lots of rumors anyways:
- Teams are making introductory calls now to set the tone for the next five weeks.
- One official looking to add a reliever says no one is available.
- With so few teams willing to part with players, sellers are asking for a lot.
- The Brewers, Dodgers, Phillies and Mets are among the teams to call about Cliff Lee. The Indians would still have to be overwhelmed to part with him.
- The Cubs have considered trying to reacquire Mark DeRosa.
- They've also done some preliminary searching for a bat, but they're not sure where they'd play a new hitter so that gives the versatile DeRosa extra appeal.
- Stark's heard nothing to suggest Bobby Valentine will end up managing the Nationals.
- The Phillies have given indications that they'd part with Michael Taylor and/or Jason Donald in a deal for a top starter.
- However, they won't listen on these players: Dominic Brown, Lou Marson, Kyle Drabek, Jason Knapp, Carlos Carrasco and Antonio Bastardo.
- Doug Davis and Ian Snell aren't Phillies targets.
- The Rays are looking for long-term upgrades. They'd like to acquire "the next J.P. Howell."
- They're asking about young corner outfielders, rather than Jermaine Dye types.
- Pedro Martinez still wants a $5MM salary (prorated) plus incentives, so don't expect him to sign soon.
- The Reds have the best minor leaguers in the division and some could become trade chips.
- The Mets checked in on Garrett Atkins.
- Tony Reagins believes 2009 free agent Vladimir Guerrero can still hit.
- At least one scout can't imagine Adrian Beltre being traded. Makes sense, given his shoulder injury and contract.
The Dodgers / Phillies refuse to trade the quality Front Of the Rotation type starting prospects that are close to major league ready that the indians are looking for if they would trade Lee.
The Mets would have to package Holt / Mejia and Parnell to have any hope at all in getting Lee and they seem to view Holt and Parnell as untouchables = Niese and Gee are both 4 and 5 type starters which the Indians are loaded with those type of soft tossing girlymen type pitchers. Kunz value isn't what it once was and the Indians are loaded with position prospects at every level so I don't see the Mets as a match for any of the Indians available players.
The Brewers I don't know what they have in the way of pitching prospects that the Indians would be interested in.

people can think i'm crazy all they want but I don't know that i trade Taylor for Lee. Taylor has raked at every level. he's a true 5 tool guy. He's Ryan Howard with less power but much better defense, a cannon of an arm and a .320 avg consistently. plus he doesn't strike out a lot. I'm going to have to be overwhelmed. 10 years of Taylor with at least 3 or so alongside Howard in the lineup??? That could be very very good.

Book it.
Derosa will be back with the cubs by July 31st.
The cubs are the best fit for the indians. They want young arms, and the cubs have an abundance of young arms in their pen and minors. They are too the only team to want to give up that talent as from what i heard Yanks,Mets,Cards all balked at that price.

What would you do with Lou's garbage bench? Freel, Miles, Blanco, Scales, Fontenot and Bradley. None can hit a lick and DeRo takes all of their positions??? Hendry made the team stronger...BS!!! He's the guy that sent us down the river this year. Got to go, Hendry.

Oh, I forgot about our brillant OF, Soriano getting picked off at first on a flyball to the fence or refusing to be called off on a shallow flyball, or just striking out all the time with a 233 BA. Another great piece of work. It is clear that this team knows it's not going anywhere and it shows in everyone's attitude. Congrats Hendry...go find a job, somewhere else.
