MetsBlog'com's Michael Baron says that prior to last night's game, Mets GM Omar Minaya said that making a major trade is unlikely because many teams are still in contention.
“Some of our DL guys are probably going to be the reinforcements. But it’s also fair to say that we’re going to try to go out there and look around and see if we can do something that can fit. If we can get all our guys back healthy, our healthy guys, it’s going to be hard to make trades that are going to be better than Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado.”
While Minaya is certainly correct when he says that getting his own players back and healthy is better than any trade they could make, Baron wonders if the team is putting too much faith in their return, particularly Jose Reyes since his injury involves his legs.

It seems that I see the same article everyday. Minaya has been saying this for months.

Would you be willing to give up players from the Martinez/Flores/Parnell/Niese/Meija/Holt group in order to land an impact bat?
Because I would wait and see what Beltran, Reyes and Delgado do, too.

I'd give up one of those players to be honest. If I could net an impact bat with a reasonable contract that includes 2010 in it, why not?
I don't see parting with Niese or even Martinez as being a big deal. Martinez has been far too over-hyped to ever match what is expected of him IMO

Yeah, I think that Niese or Parnell could reasonably be moved, or maybe Jefry Marte could be a trade chip as well.
But I really don't think that this team can deal away Martinez/Flores, and it'd take a stud to pry away Meija or Holt.
I agree that it would have to be someone signed for more than just 2009, so no Matt Holliday for any of those guys outide of Parnell/Niese, and I wouldn't include both of them. Maybe something like Niese and Ruben Tejada, although I'm not sure how much they like Tejada.

I wouldnt even try to get Holliday. They don't need another right-handed bat IMO.
With Sheffield, Tatis, Wright, etc. I think they need a lefty or switch-hitting power hitter in there to balance the line-up until Beltran, Delgado, Reyes come back.

Reyes is a lazy piece of garbage.

It is amazing that so many people (I'm looking at you Mr. Baron), just can't ever think about more then this year. If there is nothing you can do, there is nothing you can do, and if the Mets can't get it done by waiting for their guys to get back, then so be it, there is always next year.

chefpete is as lazy as he says Reyes is with those played out opinions on Jose.
I'd be happy to trade FMArt, Niese,Murphy and Evans if it were to bring back and impact bat or No.2 pitcher that is signed past 2010.
I'm thinking that if those 4 could bring back a Cliff Lee/Bronson Arroyo type as well as someone whose value is low right now like Garret Atkins I'd be happy.
I think they should keep Parnell,Meija,Flores & Holt.

Do you think it's time now to make a trade Omar??? before this series the mets were a game out of first with a great chance. Three strait losses and three runs in those games, what is it going to take to realize they cant wait? they're gonna be out of it before the reinforcements come back.. I just think Omar needs to wake up and so does jerry... I've never never been so dissapointed as a mets fan i think Omar and jerry must go

And if i see fernando Tatis pinch hit one more time with a man on first or first and second or the bases loaded I'm gonna freak out! And david wright, I'm his biggest fan but after seeing him strike out lately seemingly every other at bat and grounding into inning ending double plays and also his inability to hit for power... I'm willing to see him go too. you watch the Philies and they hit homers like it's nothing.. I don't understand it.... it's pitiful, I never thought i would say i want the face of the team to chance but i have been waiting too long and I think changes must be made

as a long time NY Mets fan I must say that the play on the field has been very hard to watch. I understand we are hurt but the way we are losing its silly, bad base running not getting bunts down poor D not backing up bases. maybe its time to take a long look at the coaching staff?????

I live in the Bay Area now so I have had a chance to watch Matt Holiady He would be a great fit in LF even when they get all the players back still a big hole in LF Get it done Omar

I like that option thomas, i think holliday would be a great addition, the only thing is i think we can use a lefty bad more than a righty... we already have too many right handed bats, not to say i dont want him, but i was thinking of a guy like adam dunn. He's lefty, he can play outfield, not that great by the way, but we' probably give up less... you know what i mean? but dont get me wrong i'd take holliday in a heartbeat

we have to get something done tho... this hurts me so bad, and like you said they're playing like little leaguers...im sick of it... and soon it's gonna be too late.... the phils just won 22 to one.
