Johnny Damon Rumors: Friday

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | January 29, 2010 at 4:07pm CDT

Johnny Damon is open to joining the Blue Jays, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian (via Twitter). Damon said in a text message that he is "all ears and eager to help make any team better."

Yesterday we learned that the Blue Jays inquired on Damon. GM Alex Anthopoulos suggested Jays fans keep expectations in check, however. We also heard that Scott Boras, Damon's agent, was trying to engage the Reds and Tigers.

Today, Jayson Stark wrote that the Tigers don't seem that interested. The Braves haven't spoken to Boras in a month and a half and the Rays have little to spend.

Damon should be open to playing for anyone who will give him a paycheck.

If the Jays can get him for $5-million and a club option for 2011, I’m all for it. Everyone knows his offensive numbers were inflated because New Yankee Stadium was built for him.

Scott Boras going to pay Johnny the difference from the $5MM he might get to the $9MM he was maybe worth?

I would love to see Damon in the Twins. The Twins are a good young team, I think with Damon they will be a better team. Maybe Johnny Damon and Delmon Young share playing time in the outfield. And have Damon lead off with span batting second. Adding Damon to a Mauer and Morneau lineup could be very very dangerous.

I just loved how Scott Boras is looking like a real as right now. Because of him Damon and the yanks are done. I hope he gets burned like this more in the future.

didnt boras turn down the 5 million offer for washburn from the twins? and now nobody really wants wahsburn expect maybe seattle, but i really hope boras gets his clients burned by being greedy if damon really wanted to play for the yankees agian he would have done what a-rod did do the contact discussion himself

i think Boras is loosing some fan base, i think owners and Gm’s are getting tired of his relentless negotiating and more top players will start manuveuring to other great agents who can still get em paiiid.

I think that signing Damon makes sense for the jays as long as it is no more than 5 million and that snider gets to play right field over Jose Bautista. If snider doesn’t, then it doesn’t make sense. They can’t take away at bats from young stars.
