Cardinals Designate Chuckie Fick For Assignment

The Cardinals have designated Chuckie Fick for assignment, the team announced (on Twitter). The move creates room on the 40-man roster for Brian Fuentes, who was added to the big league roster. Victor Marte was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Fick, 26, made his Major League debut with St. Louis earlier this season, allowing one run in 1 2/3 innings across two appearances. The right-hander pitched to a 4.68 ERA with 4.3 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in 42 1/3 relief innings for the team's Triple-A affiliate this season.

Noooo, not Chuckie Fick.

So this leaves us w/ 3 lefties out of the pen? Seems like overkill, but I guess it gives MM more options out there. Zep, Browning, and now Fuentes…

Does this mean the Cardinals will “Fick Off” the 40 man roster?

Chuckie Fick. I hardly knew you.. er wait. I never heard of you before in my life. He played when? Was I asleep? How did I miss a guy with a name like that?

What “big” move is needed? Other than a reliever the only thing they really need to do is play more consistent. They have an amazing run differential, their starters are pitching very well, and their relievers are getting better.

Easy. In order to boost their production at 1B, they’re going to trade for Albert Pujols. The Angels would get back a package centered around Chuckie Fi–oh, right.

They probably do. But not a big move. Either another innings eater starter which could push Kelly to the pen or another reliever. That said I wouldn’t give any significant prospects up.
