Quick Hits: Giants, Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox

The latest trade rumors from around MLB…

  • The Giants are still looking for bullpen help, Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports (on Twitter), They had some interest in Francisco Rodriguez until they saw him pitch recently and they don't view Jonathan Broxton as the solution, Knobler reports.
  • GM Ned Colletti says the Dodgers are far from done, and will continue to look for a starter and a position player, Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweets.
  • The Mets would listen to offers for Scott Hairston and Tim Byrdak, but only for pieces who could help them next year, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports (on Twitter).
  • The Red Sox would like to obtain a right-handed bat, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe tweets. We covered more Red Sox rumors in a pair of AL East posts today.

A right handed bat to play where?

    • Just what I was thinking…

    • Lunchbox45 3 years ago

      starting rotation

      • MaineSox 3 years ago

Ha! Guess they should go after Greinke then after watching him hit a HR off Lee.

    • StanleyHudson 3 years ago

My thoughts exactly. Outfield is log jammed as it is so no fit there. Could do addition by subtraction and trade Shoppach and call up Lavarnway to split time with Salty…

      • MaineSox 3 years ago

Good point. If they really wanted a RH bat that badly they could have called him up to DH while Ortiz was out.

      • ugotrpk3113 3 years ago

I guess looking down at Pawtucket for a RH bat is too hard…

    • fitz 3 years ago

No kidding. They need an arm way before they need another bat. I also agree they need to get Lavarnway up, stat!

    • ugotrpk3113 3 years ago

Great question. This team is so confusing.

    • Koop87 3 years ago

Hairston for Salty straight up! (99% joke 1% hope)

  2. Braves will trade you Uggla for one of your young outfielders.. I wish they would anyway

  3. The Mets need to make Wright available. They’ve messed up their season. They can bring him back next year when he voids his option and get something for him now

    • Wrights highest value would be in the offseason. if he is traded this season he will be a 2 month rental and he will void the option and become a free agent. Trading him in January will give the acquiring team a whole year of Wright.

the mets have to add Murphy, Duda, and even Dickie to that list if they want players in return to help them in 2013.

    • Guest 3 years ago

the Rangers are dying for a pitcher, I bet they would give up a lot for Dicky

    • MetsMagic 3 years ago

Why would they trade R.A? He has an option for next year.

      • Guest 3 years ago

prospects, the Mets are very thin in the farm system and with the real team. They might not like it but they need to trade good players for numbers of good players to ever be real good again

      • Rob Lucci 3 years ago

Im a Mets fan but lets face it R.A. is a good pitcher and a great story this year but thats not a guy you wanna build around for the future.

Only rumors for the Giants in the past week have been bullpen rumors, while our offense is below average with no power. sigh

  6. Dodgersarelife 3 years ago

God the Giants front office is blowing it. Their rivals are only getting stronger and stronger.

    • SFrush90 3 years ago

      Typical Giants front office.

    • 55saveslives 3 years ago

Yet the Giants are in first place.

      • SFrush90 3 years ago

Still have needed offensive help for years. That still hasn’t been addressed. They need it this year and without it they may not go far in the playoffs. The Dodgers with Hanley will be big spenders this offseason. Doesn’t look good.

        • northsfbay 3 years ago

Hitting gets you there, pitching puts you over the top. The hot pitchers win in the playoffs. Good pitching beats good hitting in the playofffs. Ask the Phillies, the last 2 years.

          • SFrush90 3 years ago

I’m quite aware, however, we don’t have good hitting.

  7. SFrush90 3 years ago

Gary Brown for Scott Hairston and Tim Byrdak. Git ‘er dun Sabez! You know you want to.

  8. Guest 3 years ago

Scott Hairston would help the dodgers, he can kill lefties

    • Koop87 3 years ago

      What were you thinking?

      • Guest 3 years ago

Zack Lee in AA would not be bad, has talent but has not looked good , potential he can learn how to use it, prospects are always a gamble. The mets are set with Wheeler, Harvey, Niese, Gee, Dicky, Pelfrey(6th) maybe he could eventually be a spot starter or long man for them if he can improve

  9. It’s too bad that Sabean seems to plan his vacations from July 10th – 30th every year, then spits coffee on his computer screen on the morning of the 31st when he realizes the deadline is near.
I’d love to hear his excuses this year about why no trades are happening when it seems that most other teams are shooting fish in a barrel.
Here’s hoping that another Cody Ross falls into our lap by sheer, dumb luck.

Giants should just use George Kontos more and see what they have. They might have a solid setup man right underneath their noses and not even realize it.

    • rainyperez 3 years ago

His 20 ks to 2 BB are good signs. I believe they are breaking him in for next season after Affeldt leaves. His slider isn’t as devastating as Romo’s but it is really good.

  11. Look like Ned Colletti’s in Beast Mode.

  12. vtadave 3 years ago

That was good. It’s like saying that you were really interested in this girl until you met her in person and saw what she looked like.

  13. I love this name! Is that you Costanza?
Also, I see Colletti states he is not finished yet.
During the off-season after signing Capuano and Harang, he declared he was done. It must be nice to come into some money because of the new ownership. I wish the Orioles would so the same. Either get new ownership, I would take Pat Sajak or Mark Cuban! Heck, I would take both. Or Angelos decide to spend some money instead of giving up a prospect and obtaining Justin Morneau. Its not like we knee deep in prospects at first base in our system. I think he’s worth a gamble just like Hanley Ramirez was.

Bogaerts is at least 2 years away from being ready. And they want to call up Iglesias to be a SS not a utility guy..

  15. MaineSox 3 years ago

If they dump Punto it will presumably be to keep Ciriaco on the team (outside chance they call up Iglesias to be the SS and make Aviles the utility guy, but I highly doubt it, and no chance of calling up Bogaerts who is 19 and in A ball).

  16. It’s frustrating being the fan of an average team that doesn’t have a money volcano.

  17. sfgiants49 3 years ago

Eat 90% of the money and maybe we’d consider taking him off your hands.

  18. Let’s see if can still “save” a game. No wait Ozzie is being Ozzie and being stubborn about the closer role.

  19. Chris Faina 3 years ago

    Still wouldn’t.
