Zack Greinke Rumors: Tuesday

Scouts will be watching Brewers ace Zack Greinke very closely tonight as he makes his first start since July 13. The right-hander was given 10 days' rest in an effort to see him "recharge his batteries," as Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin phrased it. We'll keep tabs on Greinke rumors in this post, with the latest going up top.

  • The Brewers' ideal scenario is to trade third baseman Aramis Ramirez to the Dodgers in exchange for pitching prospect Zach Lee and then deal Greinke to the Rangers for third base prospect Mike Olt, reports Jim Bowden of SiriusXM ESPN radio (via Twitter). Bowden adds that such a sequence of moves is unlikely, however.
  • The teams that are known to have interest in Greinke, tweets Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, are: the Rangers, Orioles, Braves, Angels, White Sox, Blue Jays, and Dodgers.

    Bowden isn’t credible

Whoa! Lee for Aramis? No thanks. Dodgers shouldn’t make any trades. We’re getting low balled by everyone.

  3. Tim Mirkovich 3 years ago

Whoa Lee for Aramis? Yes please.

  4. Lol z lee for ramirez, keep dreaming.

  5. I’m not a big follower of reporters but is bowden one of the worst? his sources and ideas seem to be completely off.

His articles make it very clear on why he failed as a GM

I would love, love, love this scenario. Never going to happen though.

  7. BlueLA 3 years ago

yeah I would like a date with Angelina Jolie tonight and then trade her so I can have a date with Kate Upton tomorrow

  8. Maybe if Ramirez was 3 years younger

  9. Justin Timberpond 3 years ago

I said this exact same scenario about a week ago (A-ram to the dodgers. Olt for Grienke)…People thought I was an idiot

  10. Justin Timberpond 3 years ago

I said Aramis to the Dodgers for a SP, OF or 1B and Grienke for Olt about a week ago. People thought i was crazy…..

  11. Gilbert Lee 3 years ago

Greinke to Marlins in exchange for……Hanley, straight up.

  12. Nelson Brana 3 years ago

    greike to braves

Greinke trade… Please include every member of the Milwaukee bullpen with him. Man, oh man – Pathetic! I can’t even watch this garbage anymore.

  14. His batteries must be recharged because he really put some juice into that ball he drove into seats! AND threw a 3 hitter through 7 innings.

  15. baumer16 3 years ago

I think any deal would have to include Olt

  16. SixtoLezcano 3 years ago

As a Brewers fan I would make that trade. Maybe replace Garcia w/ Sardinas.

  17. You want to give up all of that for Greinke? I thought you were joking.

  18. Mustache101 3 years ago

Then take your chances with your current rotation and when he’s pitching for the angels don’t complain

  19. baumer16 3 years ago

Well depends on how Greinke does tonight. If he does well then you wont get Greinke if you’re not willing to deal Olt.

  20. ThinkBlue10 3 years ago

Regardless, Aramis isn’t worth Zach Lee.

  21. Mustache101 3 years ago

Brewers fan here and I agree as Aramis has a lot of money coming his way yet it’s a back loaded deal

  22. with the way Lee is pitching, He should have stuck to football, LSU needs a new QB.

  23. thats nice but that guy is getting older and has quiet a big contract thru 2015

  24. ThinkBlue10 3 years ago

Lol. I wouldn’t mind Aramis in our lineup. But I would mind giving up Lee to acquire Aramis……Yeah our offense sucks, not quite as good as the Brewers. That’s why you guys are at the top of the standings in your division and that’s why we’re at the bottom of ours……oh wait….

Too bad Votto got injured while he was on pace to hit 70 doubles, a MLB record.

  26. baumer16 3 years ago

If thats the best offer they get which I doubt it will be. If the Cubs can get the Braves best pitching prospect, a top 15 prospect for Dempster than I’m sure the Brewers can get at least one elite prospect and more for Greinke. If he pitches well tonight and isnt injured.

  27. yeah… i would hope Melvin would take the comp picks…

  28. mlbscout6 3 years ago

When your talking about one of the top 10 pitchers in the game, yeah.

  29. TophersReds 3 years ago

Obviously. It just came to my mind when you said the 50 doubles 20 people thing.

  30. TophersReds 3 years ago

Whoever thumbs’d that down is somebody who wish they could have gotten Votto in free agency..

  31. throwitback85 3 years ago

I’m sure scouts are reading your play-by-play, too.

  32. top of 7th, Greinke shows that even if he doesn’t pitch well, teams could put him in the outfield and use his bat.

  33. baumer16 3 years ago

No way you can keep Olt now. Market is going to be crazy after the clinic he’s putting on tonight

  34. Greinke isn’t an ace. He hasn’t been one since 2009. I don’t understand why everyone is infatuated by him.

  35. Oh, you mean the “clinic” against the Phillies terrible offense? Oooh aaah

  36. Top 10? Hmmmm Verlander, Kershaw, Hernandez, Weaver, Cain, Sabathia, Halladay, Price, Strasburg, Hamels, Carpenter, Gallardo….then Greinke. Top 15, sure.

  37. baumer16 3 years ago

Well you obviously didnt watch the game. His fastball was hitting 95 and his curveball and changeup were fantastic. As the reporters were saying after the game, scouts must have been drooling over this guy. But go ahead talk about Phillies offense like you know what you’re talking about

  38. So what rock have you been under for past 3 years? Greinke ranks in top 5 in every pitching category over that period. That means yes he is an ace.

  39. Justin Timberpond 3 years ago

    Haha that’s the truth

  40. Justin Timberpond 3 years ago

@Berryjs:disqus i’m glad you saw this. You thought it was SUCH a crazy idea for Aramis to get traded. And that I called it that he would go to the Dodgers…? Better start listening to me Berry

  41. Greinke is better than Hamels, Carpenter, and Gallardo. Would rank him with Weaver as well seeing as if he left LA he wouldn’t be nearly as good.

  42. ThinkBlue10 3 years ago

    Didn’t have to use Lee.
