Red Sox Designate Che-Hsuan Lin For Assignment

The Red Sox have designated outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin for assignment, the team announced. The move creates room on the 40-man roster for the recently-claimed Sandy Rosario.

Lin, 24, had three singles in a dozen plate appearances with Boston this season, his big league debut. He's a .256/.347/.344 hitter in over 2,750 minor league plate appearances whose best attribute is his defense in center field. Lin was named MVP of the 2008 Futures Game after hitting a two-run homer off Ryan Mattheus.

Never got a fair shake.. half dozen others they could have/should have unloaded.

Please Duquette grab him.. Best defensive OF in the Red Sox system with a cannon for an arm, with good speed. yeah, he’s just a slap hitter, but he also knows the K zone well.

Nava Sweeney, this guy was of more use than those 2.. never got a break and just 23…

Designated for assignment doesn’t necessarily mean he will be released from the organization. He’s off the 40-man roster, but he can still accept the assignment. Still might be selected in the Rule 5 draft, though.

Nah.. He has to get past waivers 1st and really doubt that will happen.. I can hope tho..

There is another Sox fan here who is a HUGE Lin fan am pretty sure will be around and take notice if they have not already…

I am so freaking angry. Valencia over Lin. Are you freaking kidding me?

Bingo :-) Yes my friend.. You were the one I referenced above who would blow a gasket.. It is above comprehension the team kept multiple retread/discards above Lin..

It does show that they hold him in contempt.. You watch and they will leave Fields unprotected and protect discards like Butler who are of no use to anyone.

they need to give this kid a real shot. if we don’t, we’ll be watching him make web gems in the next year or two for some other team
