Yankees Likely To Keep Gardner, Try To Trade Ichiro

By charliewilmoth | December 10, 2013 at 4:47pm CDT

With the additions of Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran, the Yankees have a surplus in their outfield. They're not likely to address that surplus by trading Brett Gardner, however, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports. The Yankees like the idea of having both Ellsbury and Gardner in their outfield, and they will likely focus on trading Ichiro Suzuki instead.

As Heyman points out, however, there isn't likely to be a particularly robust market for Ichiro. The 40-year-old hit .262/.297/.342 in 2013.

A Yankee fan speaking common sense. Seems most of our fellow Yankee fans, want to throw Jeter into the 9th slot. Jeter, the Capt who hit .316 in 2012 replaced by Gardner who hit .270 this year.

Not to disagree, but please refer to on-base percentage instead of average. Walks count!

The Angels are paying for Ichiro to play for the Yankees?

The Mariners made a great trade!

Sorry, had Wells on the brain. I have no problem with Ichiro on the team, but would rather trade him than Gardner.

Judging from recent comments on other threads, I don’t doubt that there are more than a few New Yorkers, or Yankee diaspora, who are convinced that Ichiro for Walker is perfectly fair.

Speak for yourself. I desperately NEED an official Giants Ichiro Jersey. I’ll sacrifice Gregor Blanco’s playing time for that.

You and about 500,000 other Asians would be all over that. You know that is the only reason Sabean is considering this. Merchandising. Seems to be more important than trying to get back to the playoffs, judging by the offseason so far.

Well, depending on the money involved, I actually DO think it’s not that bad of a move. With the cavernous gap in right-center, Ichiro could hit a bunch of doubles out of the 7th or 8th spot.

Seattle Mariners should bring back Ichiro as he can help Cano & the Mariners getting back into the playoffs as a Wild Card in exchange for either Brandon Maurer or Anthony Fernandez & a “C” level PTBN prospect the Yankees may be interested in someone to replace Texiera in couple or few years.

Maybe a bad contract swap- Ichiro for Uggla+ Jordan Schafer perhaps?

People Beltran is 37 years old he will be 40 at the end of his contract he will be a Sori type player with a good bat . He will be our DH in year two and Mason Williams will then be slotted , the Kid is good . then we will have one of the best OF’s in baseball. year two alot of people is off the books so the yankees will be right back looking for a SS and other slots . i Would not be surprised seeing Hamilton in pinstripes in a few years if the Angels go no where

Yikes…I did not want Beltran and you want to bring the head case that is Hamilton to the Yankees. Stop looking for the all-star players in their prime to produce in their mid to late 30s.
I like Sori, so he gets the respect and the pass on the age…not to mention he still produces.

Wells will be DFA’d by Friday. Not because of age, but because he can’t play. Maybe he was spooked by the premature big bucks. Nice guy, intelligent, knows the game. Perhaps a manager one day. Ichiro is still defensively the best corner outfielder on this team. Plan 189 was a smokescreen. The FUTRE IS NOW, year to year. It is almost Christmas and we have expensive tickets to sell and luxury boxes to fill at Yankee Stadium Mall and fine dining. Which is why Hal will trade Gardner, Robertson, Sanchez, Benuelos, Nuno and Jose Ramirez for: Hamels, Lee, Chase Utley and Papelbon. Sign Grant Balfour and the Yankees are set to go to war in 2014.

So… Yankees would rather have a PTBNL?
