« Ozzie Shoots Down Trade Talk | Main | Blanton's Durability Makes a Trade Unlikely »
The latest from the prolific and well-connected Ken Rosenthal:
A member of the Phillies asks, "Is Brian Fuentes available?" Well, not yet — and maybe not at all if the Rockies' resurgence continues. The Rockies will discuss Fuentes, their left-handed closer, only if they fall out of contention. Fuentes, who turns 32 on Aug. 9, is earning $3.5 million this season, and eligible for free agency after next season.
The search for quality bullpen arms will likely be a theme that lasts throughout the season for the Phillies, given that Brett Myers has proven to be a mere mortal, unable of pitching two innings everyday and that Tom Gordon is probably used up.
From this phan's perspective, I fear that by the time some quality relievers shake loose from the trade tree, the Phillies themselves will have fallen out of contention.

Seriously,
I think Charlie Manuel needs to be fired. There wasn't much Manuel could do about Tom Gordon but the fact that Brett Myers is injured is due to bad management.
Phillies are winning 7-2... time to send in our closer. Phillies are winning 154 to -23 time to send in the closer. Okay so maybe one of those examples was a hyperbole, but there was no reason to make Myers pitch two innings a game. I hope the Phillies desperately need Percival and any other trades they can pull off.

Hey we got a J.C Romero for you, how desperate are ya??? I'm just hoping we DFA his ass when Timlim comes off the D.L.

I know hindsight is always 20/20, but its basically Barajas' fault Myers got hurt. I have never seen a catcher make a worse play then he did on the play at the plate. That would have ended the game correct? I have never seen a guy be safe when the ball beat him by the much.

The stupidity continues with you guys....
So you guys are saying that Myers is injured cuz of a 2 inning outing, or a catcher not making a play, instead of the 1,000 or so innings he's thrown in the past 5 years?
This from a power pitcher with a sharp breaking curve no less?
it's comical the logic u guys think ur using when discussing sports.

Wouldn't the Cubs be interested in Fuentes? I have no clue as to what the Rox would want in return - Murton and Cedeno?

Out of contention? Are you freakin' kidding me? This team starts the season out of contention! The Rox have made the playoffs ONCE. If they have a chance to get something for Brian Fuentes, then they should ASAP.

Even if they thought they had a chance, if maybe they say looked at their runs allowed verse their runs scored. Silly science.

Say what you want, if BArajas tagged out Hanley Ramirez (who was dead by 35 feet) Myeres doesnt get hurt. Not that night anyway.
