U.S.S. Mariner Trade Ideas
Dave Cameron over at U.S.S. Mariner had a very interesting post about a week ago regarding three trades he thinks should be made. Three deals that are designed to benefit both teams involved by examining surpluses and needs.
Coincidentally, I just took a look at an old favorite of mine, Scott Baker, from a fantasy perspective. I've also got some Jack Cust analysis up over at RotoAuthority if you're interested.

I mean yes this makes great sense. Even though Baldelli is struggling badly, 1-37 bad, he is a career .290 hitter who has 20-20 potential. The thing is that the Drays will not just want salty, but a young arm as well. Hell, they wanted davies, salty, and escobar, or james and escobar for him during the offseason. Maybe something can be worked though, I just do not know if the Drays will lower their asking price to entice the braves.

I find it strange that Braves fans would approve trading Salty for Baldelli, but not for Granderson. I personally believe Granderson's a superior all-around player.
Age is a wash (Granderson's 6 months older). Granderson's a better hitter (career OPS+ of 108 in 1034 PA's, compared to Baldelli's career OPS+ of 100 in 1785 PA's). Granderson's a better fielder (2 errors in in 262 games, compared to Baldelli's 18 errors in 388 games). Baldelli certainly has the advantage in speed, and he doesn't strike out as much, but Curtis is quickly developing himself into a much better ballplayer. Oh, and he hasn't had any injury problems yet, unlike Rocco.
If Salty's too much for CG, then he should be too much for Baldelli. Braves fans thoughts?

Oh I agree. If Salty is in a deal, it has to be Crawford. A switch hitting power catcher who is athletic enough to play in the OF or on a corner is a hot commodity. There has been talk about a potential move to LF or 1B for a while but they haven't talked about moving him to RF but he has a cannon or 3B because they have some guys there already. He is still young enough to make a position move. The value this kid has to the Braves organization at the moment is just too much to give up for a guy who can't stay healthy. I would be unhappy with anything less then a perennial all-star in the field or a solid #2 starter if Salty was moved. JS has dealt such talent before and I’m not against it but I just think the kid is too valuable to deal for anything I’ve heard him linked to. I'm perhaps over valuing him a bit but that is my opinion as a Braves fan.

I think its very debatable whether Granderson is a much better fielder than Baldelli. Baldelli has the advantage in career range factor (3.03 to 2.84) and assists (34 to 11).
That aside, I don't think either of those guys are too exciting. People probably get carried away with Baldelli's athleticism.

Now that you mention it, I really can see your argument concerning granderson. I still think that baldelli can hit for a better average, for more power, and still more bases. I think now that baldelli is healthy, his defense will be steady. Another reason I like him so much is because he can bat multiple places in a lineup, top to bottom. I just think baldelli has more upside than graderson, but if worst came to worst, I really do not think I would be heartbroken if we got granderson.
