Teixeira Pines For Orioles

The Mark Teixeira-Orioles love affair continued tonight, as the Rangers welcomed Baltimore to town tonight for a series.  Said Tex about the Orioles:

"In a year and a half, we'll have some fun conversations.  Baltimore, obviously in the future, is a place I'd love to look at."

Of course, he also said the typical cliches about being a Ranger and wanting to win in Texas.  But you don't often see a player under contract for an additional year and a half so openly talking about playing for another club.  Teixeira also spoke of his willingness to chat with top Orioles draft pick Matt Wieters to help facilitate a deal.  Both players have Scott Boras as their agent, and both went to Georgia Tech.

You may recall that 40% of the Orioles' 25-man roster will reach free agency after the 2009 season.  The O's could backload a Teixeira contract to squeeze him in for the '09 season.  It is expected that the Orioles would have considerable competition from at least the Yankees.

Teixeira hopes to rejoin the Ranger lineup one week from now, leaving Jon Daniels two weeks to trade him before the deadline.  There hasn't been much buzz on him lately.

As a Rangers fan who's tired of our idiotic owner and GM, I'm afraid the lack of buzz may not be the calm before the storm, but may actually be signs that they're wavering after the Rangers has a winning June. I like Tex, but it would be pure stupidity for them to keep Teixeira when he's all but told them he's walking after next season. More about that on my blog:

I know he says he wants to play for Baltimore but they stink. I don't know how they will be in a few years but that we will have to wait and see.

I am pretty sure Delgado's contract is up in '09 too. I can't see the Mets re-singing him because he will be to old. I don't think there is anyone to promising in their farm system(I don't know how good Mike Carp is though). Well my question is can anyone see the Mets making a strong push for him in '09?

He'll go where the most money is, plain and simple. And it's going to be a ton.

Very nice to see a player that wants to come to Baltimore. I can remember when Baltimore was looked on as a quality, professional organization and players welcomed a trade or actually wanted to be an Oriole. A lot has changed (ownership). The problem I still see is if he comes to Baltimore will enough other quality players be attracted to the team to surround him with a winning lineup. By 2009 the young pitchers should be in full form and at the beginning of their prime years. A lineup, however, filled with other team's cast-offs, role and bench players will get the same results as the cast that surrounds Tejada - fourth place.

Are those the only two things a person can ever sign for? Why would he say anthing about Balt if he didn't just want to play there ~ and he said it while they suck so... I doubt anyone asked him to say anything afterall...

"The White Sox asked for Green and Linebrink for Dye"

... You gotta be kidding me! Well, looks like he will be walking away from Chi at the end of the year then. Wonder if Williams is asking for that kind of insane return for his pitchers too...

one thing i did get out of that report is it shows the white sox want a shortstop maybe they may want Julio Lugo?

One thing I get out of it is the fact that they don't want kids and instead proven guys... Guess they won't be rebuilding afterall...

Since they prob won't be able to get young cheap allstars for the junk they are dealing then I don't see good odds in the competing in 08 by trading these guys, but whatever...

Pretty sure maybe a team or two did not draft Teixeira because his signing bonus was like 4.5m, with a 9.5m 4 year contract. Which is what probably second or third all time. Not only that but his agent is Boras so I don't know you tell me if its about out the money. Besides Mark Prior in the 01 draft Teixeira got more then. Teixeira got alot of more money and a contract ala scott boras

Thank you all for making my case. If it's about money. Or playing in Baltimore. Or Boras. It all leads to the same result for the Rangers - Tex is as good as gone. The only question is: can Little Jon DanielsHart and Tom Hicks pull their heads out long enough to actually get some value in return for Teixeira? They need to get things in high gear ASAP if that's going to happen. And that happening is the only thing - short of Hicks coming to his senses and doubling the team's salary - that can help the Rangers stop being a joke and start being real contenders. They can't develop or sign pitchers, so they need to trade for them. Tex can command a top-of-the-rotation pitching talent in a trade if Jon Daniels can finally negotiate a trade that helps his team as much as or more than the team he trades with. We're not holding our breath in D/FW.

I certainly hope so, although the thought of 2 more years of Delgado performing like this is nauseating.

When do Boras guys give that steep of a discount? Like never. It's about the money.
