« Percival To Rays, Riske To Brewers | Main | Red Sox Leading For Santana? »
According to MLB.com's Bill Ladson, the Nationals have gotten in touch with Scott Boras regarding center fielders Andruw Jones and Corey Patterson.
As you know, Andruw isn't prepared to give much of a discount despite a terrible 2007. As for Patterson, the Nats seemingly hope to miscast him as a leadoff hitter (.298 career OBP), the same mistake the Cubs made.
Ladson also has a quote from Aaron Rowand indicating that he hasn't heard much from the Nats.

I find it hilarious to see Andruw Jones overvaluing himself. He was awful this season, yet he wants to be paid like Tori Hunter coming off a career year. Take the one year deal and rebuild your value, dumbass.

you forgot something. He needs to take the year and get in shape, which will probably result in doing the rest of the work for him. But agreed Tulo, if he has another great year on a one year deal he will get a Hunter contract for sure.

If Boras keeps this, then Andruw is going to find himself playing in Japan for a year. Andruw needs to take less for a little bit (1-2 years) to rebuild his worth. I'm hoping he sees reason and comes to San Diego.

Going to San Diego for a year is not a good way to rebuild value as a hitter.

The only one of these options that really works for the Nationals is Jones on a 1 or, at most, 2 year contract. If they were to sign any of the three (Jones, Rowand, or Patterson) to more than that, they'll end up log-jamming their prospects such as Maxwell, Marrero, or Burgess in the minors...what a waste that would be!
