« Dan Haren Trade Analysis | Main | Twins Sign Mike Lamb »
The Padres and Mike Cameron will go in different directions, according to his agent. It had been said previously that Cameron and the Padres agreed on two years but couldn't meet on the amount of money.
Tom Krasovic notes that the Padres have already talked to the Cardinals about Jim Edmonds. They've also got an eye on free agent Kenny Lofton. Lofton may not be a defensive asset these days, but the 40 year-old still hits righties at an .800 OPS. Scott Hairston could play center when the Padres face a southpaw.
As for Cameron, the White Sox, Twins, Rangers, Brewers, Phillies, and Braves could be options. Ken Rosenthal adds the Cardinals, Reds, and Yankees as possibilities as well. Cameron is the best center field free agent left on the market.

Just another reason for DBacks fans to hate having traded Hairston to a division rival for an injured middle reliever.
Hairston was one of my favorite prospects but there is no way he's got the D to play CF in SD.

Sign on San Diego reporting a trade for Edmonds.

I read about the Edmonds trade on mlb4u.com.
Apparently, it's Edmonds for Single A prospect 3rd baseman David Freese. St. Louis is also paying some of the money as well.

As a Cubs fan, I hate this move. Should free up some money for the Cardinals to actually improve. Although, I detest Edmonds and will be glad that I don't have to watch him much anymore.

I was just thinking about where Kenny Lofton was going to sign a few days ago. Teams I was thinking who could sign Lofton was San Diego, Milwaukee, Chicago [both Cubs and White Sox,] St. Louis [if they trade Jim Edmonds,] and Oakland. Anyway, Lofton would make more sense for the Padres rather than trading for Jim Edmonds. These are the reasons why:
1. Lofton is a free agent unlike Edmonds who you would have to trade somebody for him.
2. Lofton gives the Padres an experienced lead off hitter [besides Brian Giles, but he's more of a #2 hitter.]
3. Lofton gets less health problems than Edmonds does .
4. Lofton brings more speed than Edmonds does.
Even though Edmonds does have power [not as much as he used to,]The Kenny Lofton signing is more reasonable rather than to trade for Edmonds.

I agree that Lofton makes more sense, but it seems like Bud Black has no interest in running.
