The Indians seem to be a good fit for a trade partner for the A's with the near ML-ready high ceiling prospects they have in the system. If talks began with Lofgren, Miller, and Crowe I think Billy would have a tough time turning down a package that included those players.
The Reds have the prospects, but not at the right positions. Bailey and Cueto would be of interest, but not Votto. The A's don't have openings at 1st/DH/LF. They already have too many of those guys as it is. I don't know how "blown away" Beane would be from including Hamilton, Stubbs, or Janish. Unless of course they decided to include Bruce.

I dont know much about the A's system, but I know that they could definitely use some guys from the Reds. Chavez sucks, they could use Encarnacion, they could also use an outfielder, because Kotsay also sucks. Hamilton and Encarnacion could be a good starting point for Haren. It would take a prospect or two also, but the A's could definitely use some of the Reds guys.

Lofgren, Miller and Crowe would be a tremendous package for Haren.

When he is actually healthy, Chavez doesn't suck. And I don't know if the A's can or will trade him, so that takes Encarnacion out.
The A's main holes are Short Stop and Centerfield. One possible fix for Centerfield, however, is a former Red the A's acquired for Marcus McBeth, Chris Denorfia.
A's could also use Starting Pitching prospects, especially if Haren and Blanton are dealt.

Chavez does not suck, and will not be moved, benched, or traded from the A's. He's the best defensive 3rd baseman in the game and will continue to start, as he should. His bat is not what it once was, but that doesn't mean he is not a starting caliber 3rd baseman. He still saves many more runs in the field than he costs the A's at the plate.
Kotsay is not being counted on to start and is in the final season of his deal. He will be leaned on as a 4th outfielder who will rotated into the lineup as much as he can be when healthy.
To trade Haren in a package that the centerpieces would be an OF with 1 year of success and a 3B with 100 career walks in over 1100 at bats would not help reload the A's farm system. Edwin's mediocre numbers would translate well to a harder league especially moving from that band box to one of the best pitcher parks in the majors. Hamilton would be an upgrade in center, but not a significant enough one to incline the A's to trade an elite pitcher under contract for 3 years for dirt cheap.
