I've gotta tell ya, for all the annoying ads on this site, the "snorg tees" one is pretty good

Jones/Markakis

I like the sound of that.

How can the Orioles not trade Bedard this winter?

They are going absolutely nowhere for the next two or three years. If they hold onto their cards and Bedard comes out a misses a couple months with an injury... well Bedard gets a year older, a little more expensive, and his perceived value decreases significantly. Be smart, Andy Mac.

please please please let it be announced monday that RHP Joe Blanton was dealt to Seattle for CF Adam Jones and RHP Chris Tillman

Lol, don't count on it Zonis. Besides, the A's have plenty of outfielders in the future mix.

"please please please let it be announced monday that RHP Joe Blanton was dealt to Seattle for CF Adam Jones and RHP Chris Tillman"

Not even the Mariners are this dumb.

That Google translation for the Adam Jones story is hilarious!

Backhanded complement of the year?

if Seattle is moving Jones and Tillman then they will add Trunifel or Clement and get Bedard. Blanton is the most overrated SP in the history of baseball. A solid #3 guy but not worth the ridiculous offers that have been conjured up

Actually, Clement isn't even one of the names in the current trade rumors, which are apparently really close. Clement's name was only thrown around in the Johan Santana rumors.

Adam Jones, Trunifel (spelling?), Tillman and George Sherrill are the current names being brought up. Jones, Sherrill and Trunifel are the for sure names right now. As stated in a previous post in this site, Tillman is the missing piece.

Also, quite to the contrary, Blanton would be a 2 pitcher on the Mariners, mostly because if the cave that we play in. Safeco is the ultimate pitchers park in the AL, and 2nd best in the MLB. Our dimensions would make his a good, cheap number 2 pitcher. The only reason we didn't go through with it is that Bavasi didn't want to send Jones to a division rival.

I can't see anything getting done. Jones, Tillman, Triunfel and Sherrill is a horrible overpayment for 2 years of Bedard.

Jones and Triunfel are pretty much A level offensive prospects and Tillman is the #1 pitching prospect for the Mariners. Just for a throw in they want Sherrill who happens to be one of the best LHRPs in baseball?

I would bet Jones is just being brought home to rest up for spring training. The Roberts trade debacle should show how unreasonable McPhail is being this winter.

WOW!

You're right.. The Orioles aren't going anywhere at the moment. Considering the market for a guy like Bedard right now, I think they would be stupid for not making a trade because they could get a ridiculous amount in return for him... and if you are trading Bedard, you are pretty much putting up the "white flag", so you might as well move Brian Roberts as well, who also could fetch a good amount in return, seeing the demand for a proven second baseman who can lead off. Between the Tejada deal, and then trading both Roberts and Bedard, they could just completely revamp. Jones and Markakis in that outfield would be amazing.

Curse ended:
haha, I don't know about Blanton being the most overrated pitcher in history, but there has been a lot of interest in him, reportedly. It is a little puzzling seeing all these teams interested and some of the possible trades that have been rumored. Even though his ERA and WHIP aren't that pretty, he does have a few things going for him: in all three of his major league seasons he has 12 or more wins, his BB/9 in 07 was 1.57, his HR/9 in 07 was .63 and he has also proven to be a pretty durable starter thus far in his career. A young, durable starter, who keeps the ball in the park and doesn't walk a lot of guys.. you know that is going to fetch a good amount in trade right now since everyone is overpaying for pitching, whether it be through trade or free agency.

Of course Blanton would be a number two on the Mariners, they have King Felix and a bunch of number fives on their staff. Washburn, Batista, Silva, Ramirez, all stink! A good staff would have at most, two of them on the roster as number 4/5s.

Heck, with that logic Blanton would be a Number One starter on the Nationals.

Blanton on a good staff is a number four. I would not trade Jones straight up for Blanton if I were th Mariners.

orioles should trade bedard and roberts to the cubs.it can be even a 4 player deal if pie and hill or in but if they are not they can build it around colvin patterson marshall and veal.i dont think bedard is going to seattle they have no pitching and tillman is too many years away.

i meant 5 player deal with hill nad pie

thr33nil:

Adam Jones is not an A level offensive player. He's a career .301 hitter at AAA, and a .298 hitter at AA. He just can't figure out how to hit MLB pitching that well. If he is such a terrible player, than why is he the main player in Mariners trade talks for Bedard, Santana etc.
