« Fogg Turns Down Rockies | Main | K-Rod May Leave Angels After '08 »
According to ESPN's Buster Olney:
The Rockies talked again about re-signing Josh Fogg, but again, Fogg's side has turned down a one-year offer. The Rockies dangled a $5 million deal, while Fogg has been looking for a multi-year contract.
As each day goes by, the remaining free agents lose what little leverage they have left. I predicted Fogg would get a three-year, $21MM deal. Instead, only five starters received deals worth $7MM or more annually: Tom Glavine, Hiroki Kuroda, Andy Pettitte, Kenny Rogers, and Carlos Silva. Pettitte at $16MM seems a little out there, doesn't it?
I think we're going to see some solid free agent bargains next week. Maybe a free agent bargain just means paying a guy what he's worth instead of significantly more than that.

If this is true which I kind of doubt, then wow. Affeldt signs for 3 mill and this guy thinks he's twice as good as that. Fogg is below jeff weaver status right now. At least weaver can on occasion own a game. Fogg will end up signing a 1 yr 3 mill and that is generous. Colorado steer clear you already have four of fogg in redmond, towers, zambrano and wells.

josh fogg wouldnt even look good in the cardinals rotation and thats saying something. the rockies have francis, cook, jiminez, morales, hirsch, bucholz, and wells and redman if you count them. what on earth do they need a bottom of the rotation starter for anyways?

Pettitte's $16MM was just honoring the option year of the deal he signed before the 2007 season.

It's hard to say who is the bigger moron here - Fogg himself or his agent! Josh Fogg has done nothing to merit a multi-year deal. Does anyone think of him as anything more than a "fill in" kind of starter? A guy you sign to fill out your rotation while waiting for a prospect to mature or, an injury to heal? No!
Fogg must have an ego that's bigger than the Rockie Mountains to turn down that deal. Or, an agent who made some big promises and has deluded himself into thinking that some team will still step up and make him look good.
