« Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Reed Johnson | Main | Cubs Sign Reed Johnson »
The Mets have placed second baseman Ruben Gotay and pitcher Steve Register on waivers. MetsBlog's Matthew Cerrone explains the situation (Register was a Rule V pick from the Rockies). Gotay, 25, would be a mildly interesting pickup.

Why would they place Gotay on waivers? I bet the Orioles and White Sox will be looking into him, and probably the Dodgers as well.

As a Mets fan its mind boggling to me..I'm sure he could of been traded in a deal for a Nady or a Thames because he has pretty good offensive upside but hes definetly lacking on D.

Maybe this is an attempt to make roster space for Reed Johnson or someone else..

Kevin Frandsen may be out for the season. Giants may claim him as well. Better option than Jose Castillo

Frandsen may be out for the year? Where did you hear that?

He ruptured his achilles in a minor league game...MRI scheduled for today I think..

The Orioles should pick him up

Wow it seems like the world just doesn't want the Giants to go younger. They have like 2 young guys set to play a lot this year, and one ruptures his achilles. I feel for ya Giants fans..

I'm inclined to believe that the Gotay report is false. There's simply no evidence to support it. Cerrone heard on a Mets messageboard that WFAN said Gotay was on waivers, but the poster who claimed to hear it quickly corrected himself.
It's happened before, where Cerrone posted a false report and it got picked up by a bunch of other websites. Metsblog has credibility that it doesn't deserve.

Gotay is now playing in the Mets-Braves game. Looks like the rumor is false

Shots at Cerrone now?
He's the only person in America who had the Santana sweepstakes right on the money the entire time. Maybe this time he jumped the gun, but it happens to the best of them.
