Ken Davidoff of Newsday writes that free agent starter Freddy Garcia will soon invite teams to watch him pitch in Miami. Davidoff offers his most likely suitors; the Mets definitely seem like a strong possibility. Since Garcia will only cost money, it's likely that a good dozen teams will have at least passing interest.
Garcia would probably play for something like $5MM for a half season. He seems a long shot to contribute, given the difficulty of coming back from shoulder surgery.
$10m (pro-rated) for a guy that is a long-shot to contribute seems a little steep.
There seems to be guys out there that are much more likely to help that will cost little talent and relatively little money in terms of contracts.

yankees should eat this kid up like pumpkin pie if he shows good stuff, they really need him the most, that rotation is in dire straits

I agree with BJ, if a guy like Lohse had to wait until the middle of spring for a contract and "only" got 4.5M I think 5M is pretty steep even for a desparate team like NYY.
The only way I see him getting big money is to sign a 2 year incentive laden contract. Something like the Lieber deal with NYY and Mulder's deal with STL
