Just becuase a player acts indeferent on the field doesn't mean that he hates baseball.
I have heard that the lack of interest is because he's not really availible yet...he is one of the owners favorite players after all and is pretty much the Reds offense.
Also why would the Reds move a player in a FA year for just monetary purposes when he's producing. I could see it if he were playing horribly or had two or three years left on the deal, but that isn't the case.
Moving Dunn just to save a few bucks would send a very negitive message.
The cost for Dunn has to exceed the value of two high draft picks.
I think the lack of interst is two fold, he's not really availible and Jocketty is asking for the moon.

I think the Reds are just being tight lipped. You'll notice there aren't any rumors floating around about any other Reds player, either. Affeldt, Weathers, Keppinger, Dunn, and others are pretty decent commodities right now. However, it'll take a pretty good haul to get any of them, as the FAs will net draft picks.
Perhaps Jocketty is carrying on Krivsky's "close to the vest" style.

I think (for the Reds) it would be difficult to trade Dunn because there is no one to put up his numbers when he's gone. I know he strikes out alot, but, he will consistently produce 40 & 100. He leads the team or is close to leading the team in several areas - who will pick it up? There is no one in the farm system that is close yet - if you trade for it you will have basically the same salary to deal with. Keep Dunn - deal Jr - and build us a great team!

I wonder if they would give him arbitration to collec those picks, though. He seems like a guy that's likely to accept arbitration instead of hitting the FA.
So it depends on whether you want to keep him as a team and from a non-Reds fan viewpoint, that seems a little bit suspect.

I don't think Dunn would accept arbitration. He likes security and hates trade talk so I think he'd take less money for the years just so he didn't have to go thru it next year.

Dunn isnt getting traded. I doubt the Yankees want him and they dont need him. All they need is Cano and Melky to start hitting better. Dunn is good but i think the prospects the Reds might want is too high. Look the Yankees hitting looks lost every year. That's cause at least one or two guys are injured and one guy isnt performing as well as he should. But a couple of guys are having suprising good years and theuy make the playoffs. funny enough to say that the yanks greatest strength is their bullpen. Their 6th in the majors and have about a 1.00 ERA the last 20 games.

I love how comments are made like "I know Dunn hates playing baseball and all"....who exactly knows this. On a site where everything is presented as a rumor this one is put as a fact. That is just ridiculous. Just because one idiot up in Toronto goes off shooting his mouth about someone he has never meant does not mean that it is true. What Dunn seems to hate is when people make claims about his life/personality that have no credibility. He seems like he just wants to be told straight up where he is. And who ever said you have to have a player who loves to play the game anyway? His stats are the same every year and he works at it. I know lots of people who dont always enjoy their job. But he still contributes, is liked in the clubhouse, and is nice to the fans. He admits football is is first love but everyone has hobbies. I mean it could be worse. He could be cheating on his wife like A-Rod. But wait...we dont bash the beloved Yankees do we?

If the Reds don't offer Dunn arnitration it will be one of the most dumb moves in baseball. Tim speculated before the year if Dunn could get Torrie Hunter money and now he's not even worth a one year deal at league average. That doesn't make any sense. Even if he accepts, they have a good player on a one year deal. They could always trade him if he accepts arb. Here is the link where Tim said Dunn could get Torrie Hunter money.

PS, I'm glad it is white on black.

What does Arod cheating on his wife have to do with anything? Its his life, his business and he performs on the field. These guys don't owe the fans anything besides playing hard on the field. We expect them to all be role models and perfect citizens.
They are humans just like us. Why do people care what A-Rod is doing when he isn't playing baseball anyway?
Melky is not going to start hitting better because he stinks at hitting and is nothing more then a 4th OF. Cano has actually been pretty good in May and June of 08, he just had as bad of an April as you can have. He is mashing the cover off the ball in July. The Yankees definitely need another SP, maybe 2 of them, and they could certainly use another corner OF with Matsui out. Get Damon back in CF and live with his arm. Get Melky back on the bench where he belongs.
