Tim is there any chance that their is an offer with gamel and other prospects for cc rather than laporta and other prospects?

Anything’s possible; I would just say its best not to count on it…

From a Phillies standpoint, I'm not exactly thrilled. Trading a lot of prospects for Sabathia doesn't seem like the best idea to me. Because... Lidge, Burrell, and Sabathia would have to be signed after the year. And the Phillies' offense is so good because of Burrell. He really boosts them. They'd be missing a lot if they didn't sign him. And of course, they have to get something done with Lidge. So there's no way they're paying Sabathia, Burrell, and Lidge, plus Howard's deal coming up in arby again, and raises for Hamels and Victorino. I can't see them making the move for Sabathia. If they do, they're losing Burrell, which would tick me off.

Re: Philly aquiring Sabathia- I don't think they have the pieces to get it done. The Indians don't need Victorino (thought they could probably flip him for a decent pitcher). Many of their top porspects are AA and lower, which wouldn't meet the impact player Cleveland is looking for. They also really don't have any corner-IF/OF power, which is a weakness in Cleveland. I really think Howard will be shopped in the off-season for a pitcher, and they'll bring back Burrell, perhaps to play 1B or keep in in the OF.
Re: Sabathia to the Brewers- I like what I see in LaPorta, so if the offer is LaPorta+ then I think it gets taken. I don't know anything about the other 2 guys, but from looking at their stats I don't see anything special. For the rest of the year that gives you a pretty studly rotation, and having to face Sabathia/Sheets in a playoff series could be deadly for anyone.

i agree with phillyvic on this one, cc is definitely going to the brewers and considering that green is included and to a lesser extent cain, it's a fair trade and should get done by sunday...gamel will not, nor should not be traded, first of all he's not that far behind laporta talent wise, second of all he's a lefty batter, lastly he projects nicely as a 1B position player...anyway, can anyone name a better front office than the melvin/ash coalition? or better scouts than brewers?

Billy Beane A's/Twins

Jack Zduriencik is one of the best scouting directors in major league history, if not the best. The brewers nab great players out of the draft every year.
As for melvin, i think hes a pretty good GM.

Ha, glover, you really want to pawn off Gamel instead of LaPorta, don't you? Also, over exaggerate much on the best scouting director in ML history?
Strangebrew: A's, Twinkies, and Rays.

ROFL All the sudden Rays have an amazing front office! That's the same category as all the fools that said Torre was such a good manager... give the man double the payroll of every team in the league, and he's a great manager? lol.
Give a team 10 top 3 picks over a decade (yes exaggerating), and I sure hope you can put together a decent team.

Don't bet on it. After 6 long awful years under Dave Littleyield, we Pirate fans know nothing is guaranteed!!!

The Indians just secured their C.C. replacement.
They signed Jeff Weaver to a minor league deal.

Our track record with "toolsy" outfielders isn't all that good (Gutierrez, Snyder, Goleski). I'm hoping Shap can get the Brewers to swap out Cain for Salome or Pena (I think adding Gamel or Escobar is an unrealistic expectation).

"juiced," are you serious?
It's been no secret that the Rays have been able to stockpile incredible young talent over the years. Don't forget that in another universe they could even still have Josh Hamilton. And they're the second lowest payroll in the league.
You can look blindly at their success over the decade if you want, but it's hard to be an expansion team with little money and abysmal attendance and expect to be good quickly.

I like the Rays and certainly don't discount their success but, as has been mentioned, they've been given ample opportunity to get it right through many years of favorable draft status.

dont forget that the rays got elijah dukes in the third round, wade davis in the third round, and jake mcgee in the fifth round, they got mcgee and davis in the same draft, so they are getting good talent other then the first round, and finally they traded zambrano and got kazmir
so i think they front office is really good
Posted by: sprtsgy1989 | July 06, 2008 at 11:23 AM
But the truth remains that, historically, because of their poor performances they are picking higher, in every single round, than the competition.
Posted by: MickS | July 06, 2008 at 12:45 PM
... and I can't believe you're using Elijah Dukes as a testimonial to the Rays FO brilliance in selecting players in the draft.
Posted by: MickS | July 06, 2008 at 12:54 PM
my point was they know how to select talent in later rounds and there are probably more then i mentioned but i was trying to show how they have proven to select good talent in later rounds to show the guy that the rays dont have a bad front office in my opinion
