« Elias Sports Bureau Rankings: Cracking The Code | Main | Yankees Looking At Catchers »
According to Pat Rooney of the Rocky Mountain News, the Rockies are interested in starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo. Rooney says the Reds might be willing to pick up some of the $22.5MM owed to Arroyo for 2009-10.
Arroyo spoke out yesterday, saying he'd be disappointed if traded. If Walt Jocketty moves him, it won't be just a salary dump. The Yankees are said to be another possible suitor.

This question goes out to Rockies fans. Obviously Arroyo is not enough, but what else would the Reds have to throw in to get Matt Holliday back? He would answer one of the possible corner outfield voids in a big way in Cincinnati.

Wow, I never looked up Holliday's splits before, but check this out:
MATT HOLLIDAY (CAREER)
Home - .365/.429/.664
Road - .277/.341/.449
Those road numbers are not far off from his minor league career numbers:
Minors - .276/.353/.428
I'd say buyer beware on Holliday. He could be largely a Coors product.

But you forget, not saying he would wind up in Cincy, but he would be playing in GABP, which is well know for being an offensive paradise.

What would it cost? Brandon Hynick straight up or something?

Why would the Reds want someone with a 4.76 ERA at AA at a .287 AVG against and only having 64 K's in 124.2 innings

You never knew about this? Oh man where have you been? Yeah Matt Holliday is essentially the best hitter in baseball at Coors, and otherwise he just, well, good.
That's why the price for him seems so prohibitive. What if you trade all these top prospects and it turns out you get the Holliday that posts a .820 OPS instead of the one with the .970 OPS. That's the difference between an borderline all star and an MVP-type player.

Well who exactly do you think that Bronson Arroyo is going to land you? He's got a fat contract and doesn't produce enough to deserve it. He's not going to land you a bunch of quality prospects, and Hynick actually is a pretty good prospect. I mean its not like you're gonna sneak away with Fowler, Nelson or Weathers or something, so I'd be pretty content with Hynick to get out of Bronson's contract.
Can I just throw this out there:
9-7, 5.60 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 298 BAA, 104/42 K/BB in 119 innings.
Those numbers, his numbers, aren't worth $11M/yr. That's why all you get is Hynick.

Actually, for a corner OF, I don't even think .277/.341/.449 is borderline all-star. I think that's basically average.
Here's one for you:
Holliday (road) - .277/.341/.449
Murton (road) - .289/.354/.442
Holliday (minors) - .276/.353/.428
Murton (minors) - .310/.386/.455
Who's the better player? Yikes...

You really can't compare minor league numbers because Murton has been playing in them through this year. When you're still getting at bats in AAA when you're 25,26,27 and too good for the league, well then yeah you're gonna have good minor league numbers.

no no no no no no don't trade for Bronson Arroyo. He's awful. He pitches no ground balls, he gives up way too many home runs. He's not good. He's way too expensive. There's no good part of this.
