That would def be a shake up for the Royals. Wouldnt mind the braves putting a package together to get Greinke ( if the price was right)

I would love for the Red Sox to get Joakim Soria. He's under team control thru 2001, I believe... He would be a very hot target for nearly every team in the country. KC will command a high price, however. Too high for the Sox, unfortunately.

It's not like the Royals will contend in the near future, anyway. Besides, once they hit free agency, they won't be able to keep them. Why not get maximum return for them?

They've already bought out two years of Soria's free agency years. There comes a point where you actually...you know...build a team instead of just getting laughed at for having a POS on the field. That's what they're doing now, rather than become a farm team for the big market clubs.

I wish the Soria/Greinke rumors would just die already. They aren't going anywhere, and it is ignorant to think so. The Royals ARE NOT a minor league team for the higher payroll teams to just pick at every time they need to fill a hole on their roster. Moore has deemed them "untouchable." and I hope he sticks to that. Trading them would be taking one step forward, and taking two steps back. The idea of trading one of the best right handers in the AL, and one of the best closers for prospects that may or may not make it to the big leagues is just foolish, and Moore is smarter than that.

Ugh, here we go: the big market mentality. Soxfan93, just because the Royals are a small market team does not mean that they won't be able to sign their own players. That's sort of ignorant. I mean, I get where this is coming from, as most of the time, a small-market team decides against signing their own top free agents due to financial situations. But sometimes, that's not always the case.

Look at the Padres: their owners put down a limited payroll, but they go and sign Peavy long-term. Why? Peavy wants to stay, Padres want him to stay, he gave them a 'hometown' discount, and they signed him.

I mean, you can look at the Twins or the A's, argue for or against them being able to sign their own FA's, but still. For the most part, as long as they're young, they would be willing to sign their own FA's, even if it costs them. This is all assuming they are fielding a competitve team and not rebuilding.

I agree with what firesticks said. An owner wants to maximize profit. Why would you trade away your best YOUNG players, who would still be affordable, if you want to make profit? That would be rebuilding, and losses in ticket sales would lead to losses for owners. Not going to happen.

When Soria or Greinke become unaffordable, or this is a few years down the road and they don't want to sign them to a long-term contract due to their age in relation to their contribution (ie. younger players down the pipeline who are ready to contribute), then I'm sure they would entertain trade offers for those two.

I also agree with Mellinger. If either one do get traded, Royals fans are going to go crazy. Their future is already looking bright, and then they go and trade their best players, and in a way, they would be starting over again. Fans are going to go through another few years of suffering, and so on and so forth.

Will the founding of the 100/100 club trigger the removal of Lincoln and Armstrong from power? So the M's can truly rebuild?

Dusty Baker wasn't behind the signing? You cannot be serious.

With Manny, I really don't think he is going to demand 4/100. Maybe Boras opens with that, but I don't think he gets more than $20 million annually.

Moore has to consider trading Grienke if they are not close on a long term deal by winter meetings.
Soria is already signed and still has the potential to gain trade value if he can successfully move into the rotation, so he will stay put for now.
Back to Grienke now, even if a long term deal is unlikely, it will have to be an overwhelming offer. Texas has the need for a frontline starter and prospects to pull it off. If the Royals were offered a major league ready catcher, a ss for next year and an A ball prospect or two (probably couldn't get two of Smoak, Beltre, or Soto but one would have to be included. Hopefully Beltre and then throw in a pitching prospect). It's a no brainer because of KC's lack of up the middle players in their organization.
Moving Grienke would make it easier for Soria to break into the rotation and Carlos Rosa and leo Nunez can compete for the closer role.
If Soria becomes a solid #3 and Rosa or Nunez is serviceable at closing, the Royals have put themselves in a position to contend in 3-4 years, while increasing the value of Soria and Rosa/Nunez, while saving money.
If the Royals got Teagarden, Beltre, Arias, and a decent arm they would be in a better place to contend come 2012 than if they kept Grienke.

C- Teagarden
1B- Hosmer
2B- Aviles
3B- Moustakas/Gordon
SS- Arias
LF- DeJesus
CF- Beltre
RF- Moustakas/Gordon
DH- "kill bill" Kila/Butler

As a royals fan i can wait 4 more years to compete instead of constantly sucking

I agree, can't see Manny getting more than $20M annually, even with how good he's been in LA.
