« Options Declined: Taguchi, Gordon, Counsell, Embree | Main | D'Backs Rumors: Hudson, Dunn, Johnson, Rauch »
The AP talked to Hank Steinbrenner today, who said the Yankees are looking at everything and will consider Manny Ramirez. It's not much of a story, as Ramirez is a questionable fit for the Yankees and their priority is starting pitching. Plus, Hank said it.

I doubt that they'll sign him. I think the dodgers will. He a good hitter but there aint any room for him in the outfield. It looked like he liked LA and will probably stay there.

I would take Manny on a two year deal, three year if it is a team option.
Manny showed that he can still be a very dangerous hitter when motivated and happy. For him, it would be a nice way to flip off Boston.
The downside? Defensive liability, potential to be destructive, age, etc.
If Giambi & Abreu leave, I think the chances improve. Nady shifts to RF, Matsui in LF, Manny DHs. Thats a reach though.

90% of Manny playing for the Yankees would be to annoy Boston, and do you really think that will work out? He will fake a knee injury by June.
Never happen

Lol why would the Yanks Trade for washburn Now? the only reason they tried to get him was bc that was basically the last option they had and they still didnt pull the trigger. Id rather have pettite come back and then try to get cc and burnett and why would the Yanks pay cc 20+ mill Per Yr and then put in him the second spot of the rotation?

CC is an ace, Wang is not. Don't get me wrong, Wang is one hell of a pitcher but if you put him and CC on the same team, CC is your ace. Wang would be one hell of a nice #2 pitcher though.

This is a non-story.

I don't mind if the Yanks sign many as long as they take care of pitching (CC and Burnett/Lowe) and someone @ 1st base first

Manny*

"Questionable fit," that's an understatement. The Yankees need energy in the clubhouse and Manny is the guy we sign? Seriously? We need consistent offense and Manny, who gets injured at will and plays when he feels like it, is the answer? SERIOUSLY?
Cashman, you'd better have the guys to smack Hank on the nose with a rolled-up newspaper for this one. Manny is not just a bad fit, he's an expensive bad fit and there's no point at all to signing him. Amping up the Red Sox is not even useful, they play better when amped up and besides, we've got enough of that with the whole Joba/Youk thing (what's that even about anyway?).

Look - I don't like what the guy did last year to Boston but be fair.
The guy has logged at least 449 AB's every year since 2002. That's with his injuries, real or otherwise. He's getting up there in age and has been remarkably healthy throughout his career.
This whole concept of needing youth is just silly. I would take Manny with his 37 year old body over a much younger and athletic Melky Cabrera. What matters isn't athleticism or age. What you should care about is results.

MAYBE, and JUST MAYBE by taking the attention off Alex Rodriguez will allow him to focus more on hitting in clutch situations. If anything, having "Manny being Manny" towards those Red Sux would make quite of a New York story. Or at least it would make a great addition to the daily pictorial images on the back of the New York Post. Entertainment I look forward to on my daily morning commute.

Its NY; there's plenty of attention to go around. Alex will never be living in the shadows (and doesn't appear to want to).

I don't know how much of a tragedy this would be. If the Yankees were to be able to get him on a 2 year deal, or even a 3rd year team option, I think they should do it. Was Manny a pest in Cleveland...I don't really remember. We all saw how well he performed in LA and how much he seemed to like it. Honestly, I think he just hated Boston. If he were to be able to come to NY and play Boston 25 times a year, he'd love to stick it to them. I don't believe that he would be a problem here. Plus, if he comes to NY and is an ahole, it will just make him look worse. This would be his opportunity to show that it was only a Boston thing. We all know he didn't at all get along with the management there. He's been demanding a trade for years. So if the years are right and only the years, because we know money isn't an issue, I say do it. Putting Manny that lineup would take some of the burden off of Arod, and definitely improve the others around him. If they are going to lose both Abreu (.296/20/100) and Giambi (.247/32/96), then they will need to make up for the production somewhere.

ZRosey, where do I start
1) Last I checked, the Yankees don't have enough money to shell out $620 million in contracts, which is not an exxaggeration if you think about it (Manny $100 million, Tex $180 million, CC $200 million, Abreu $50 million, Burnett $70 million, Moose $25 million) Look, if the Yankees sign Tex and Burnett and resign Abreu and Moose, that's all they'll be able to do besides for a little help here and there in minor areas.
2) After last year, you are the only Yankee fan who wants to but Nady on the bench.
3)Don't hate on Rocco. It's a disease that can go away and he proved that he can play a good four games a week and probably won't have a huge asking price.
4)That lineup is also so old that half of them are already filing for Social Security. The last thing that the Yankees need is Manny. As a Dodger fan, I love him but he would not fit in well with the Yankees. They should go after young players, like CC, Burnett, Tex and then bring back Abreu and Moose.

"When i read "Manny to Yankees" all i can think of is "Cashman interested in signing Lowell to play 1b". Simply put out their to annoy sox fans with no real substance behind it. Yawn."
When I read this post, I think that is the reason you were put on MLBTR. Simply to post biased and ridiculous stuff with no substance behind it just to annoy everybody. Yawn.
