Schilling Could Pitch Half-Season

Curt Schilling talked to the Sporting News yesterday, revealing his choice for 2009.  He'll either retire or pitch for a contender in the second half.  It all depends on how Schilling's shoulder feels this spring.  He did not pitch at all in 2008.

A reminder of the 12 teams Schilling considered a year ago aside from the Red Sox can be found here.

Schilling said this morning on WEEI that he did that interview a month or so ago. He also said he's a long way from pitching in the majors again and isn't sure if he wants to do everything that he'd need to do to pitch in 2009. If he does come back, I definitely could see him going to the Rays, although they've shown they don't need any sort of veteran in the rotation to be successful.

Can someone explain to me what exactly happened to him in the off season last year?

He was examined and cleared by the Red Sox medical staff, then signed an $8M contract, then got injured to the point where he couldnt pitch and required surgery?

I remember reading alot of conflicting and confusing reports when this went down...anyone have any clarity ont he matter?

Basic assumption is the Red Sox medical staff screwed up when they cleared him for the deal. Odds are he'll come back in June for a challenger who has injury issues. Red Sox, Phils, maybe even the Rays seem possible.

I don't see him coming back he should just stay retired,it's not like he's trying to win a World Series he's already won 3 and he got paid $8M to do nothing the entire 08 season so he doesn't need the money either...It's time to hang it up Curt.

Curt Schilling had a hell of a career but i think its time to throw in the towel. Curt Schilling all he does is say dumb things to the media, I understand where hes trying to get at sometimes but we do not want to put up with your BS anymore so its time to just leave. I doubt he would even be able to pitch 10 games even if he were to be healthy by the beginning of the 2009 season. He missed out this whole season and all he did was talk bad about Manny, even though it is true of what he is saying but i dont want to hear stuff from the mouth of Curt Schilling because he didnt do anything to contribute to the success of the Red Sox this season. At least Manny contributed this year for the Red Sox until he was traded to the Dodgers for Jason bay
