Come on Ruben Amaro you can pull if off let your first move be a big one...We can lock up Holliday just give him the contract we would likey be giving Ryan Howard,i don't see Howard being the hitter he is now 5 or 6 years from now.

Cards are pursuing Holliday as well

The Phillies make the most sense, as they would be one of the teams that didn't really have to worry about Holliday's home road splits, since their home field is about the same size as the park I played little league at when I was 9. He makes sense for the Phillies.

JT, you aren't locking up Holliday. Literally no chance of that unless you offer him like 20 percent more annually then he is looking for on the open market. No shot Holliday doesn't hit free agency with Boras as his agent. Boras will not let it happen.

What do you guys think? I would prefer to NOT give up Victorino under any circumstances at this point...though I'm pretty sure there would never be a better time to sell than right now as he was a superstar in the playoffs...Also not sure if I'd want to trade the farm for a year of Holliday unless of course, they locked him up. I doubt they'd be willing to give him the money he (or should I say, Boras) wants.

I really hope the Phils get him. I live in the Philly and root for them when they're not playing the Yanks, so I'd say try to get him, but don't even think about giving up Carrasco.

"I would prefer to NOT give up Victorino under any circumstances at this point...though I'm pretty sure there would never be a better time to sell than right now as he was a superstar in the playoffs.."
I don't give up Victorino for Holliday. It's much harder to get a decent hitting and decent fielding CF than it is to get a power hitting corner OF. That's why guys like Aaron Rowand get big contracts (that and Brian Sabean isn't really the brightest crayon in the box).
He plays solid defense in CF. Even a mediocre bat is good at CF, as there are not that many who both play solid defense and hit well.
The Phillies would have to go spend more money on a FA CF to fill the hole, such as Mark Kotsay. Complete waste of resources.

For the Cards to get Holliday O'Dowd has to be asking for Rasmus too, right?
Could happen, last time the Rox, had an MVP outfielder, he got traded to St. Louis too...

I see a Holliday trade a lot more likely for the Cards than them acquiring Peavy from SD. In the end, I don't know if ownership will allow Johnny Mo to acquire Holliday, since you need to sign him to an extension to make the deal worth the trade. The new deal the Cards would have to give Holliday would be substantial. I would imagine at least Ludwick, Todd, and maybe Perez/Motte to get started. If not Ludwick, Rasmus would have to be included.

As a Phillies fan I don't like these rumors at all. We may very well end up trading our toping pitching prospect (Carrasco) and our top hitting prospect (Donald) for a 1 year rental player. I'd rather just see the Phillies bring Jason Donald up to the Majors and stick him in LF instead of shaving off the top of our farm system for Holliday.

Rasmus will not be traded for Holliday. Holliday is in the final year of his contact. Though the Cards would try and sign him, but Rasmus to much for a "rental player"

"Rasmus will not be traded for Holliday. Holliday is in the final year of his contact. Though the Cards would try and sign him, but Rasmus to much for a "rental player""
Agreed. Mo shouldn't do it.

I hope the Cards pull the trigger first. I like Carrasco, Marson, and Donald right where they are; 7 years away from free agency.

The deal (besides ludwick of course) might involve Perez, and another minor leaguer, which would also mean they were pursuing one of the closers on the open market. i know the rockies wanted something to bolster their bullpen, and a guy that throws 95-98 with a wicked slider i think would do that.

Victorino and Carrarsco wont be a part of the deal, its going to be based around donald and marson
Posted by: derman1984 | November 07, 2008 at 09:43 AM
Why would the Rockies want Marson when they already have Iannetta?
