The Philadelphia Phillies have signed RHP Mike Koplove to a contract that includes an invitation to spring training, reports David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News.
Koplove has only seven major league appearances since 2005, but has pitched 254.2 innings in his career. The 32-year old uses a high-80s fastball along with a slider and change-up to get hitters out.
Murphy says Koplove is likely to end up at Triple A Lehigh Valley, but will be in Clearwater, FL when the Phillies begin spring training.

Kind of suprised that he would sign with the Phillies who have 2 solid LH relievers in Romero and Eyre.
I wonder if he was told he would definitely be called up in the event of an injury to one of those guys.

Just remembered that he is from the Philly area....chance to play for your hometown team would play into his decision I assume.

well hopefully he can make Lehigh Valley a little more competitive. That's about it.

Romero and Eyre shouldn't be competing with him, 7thinning; Koplove is a righty.

Koplove has better numbers than Condrey... and could be in a position to take over Seanez's spot of last year.
Its a good signing... even if he doesn't pan out, he gives us "depth" - and thatis always a good thing...

Mike Koplove isn't half the pitcher Rudy Seanez is.
