According to Gerry Fraley, the Phillies are looking to trade starter Adam Eaton. They'll pay all but $1MM of his $9MM salary for '09 and don't want anything in return.

If they paid 9 million of his 9 million dollar salary in exchange for nobody I'd let him be the 3rd base coach for the Class Low-A Rome Braves.

I dont care if they dont want anything in return or not, they had better do better than $1 mil for that pile of crap.

GET HIM OUT NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

News flash: Adam Eaton just cancelled the SELF ESTEEM seminar he has going to be teaching next weekend.....

BIG SURPRISE there, the only question is who is willing to take him off the phils hands.
Posted by: Sam | December 10, 2008 at 06:32 PM
Does he come with a bag of BP balls and a bucket of sunflower seeds too?
Posted by: RWS | December 10, 2008 at 06:35 PM
Send him to Japan. He's bad at baseball.
Posted by: mford | December 10, 2008 at 06:35 PM
HA
What possessed the Phils to give this contract to Eaton?

"Send him to Japan. He's bad at baseball."
That fat piece of crap would be ridiculed in Japan.
Posted by: AtlantaBred | December 10, 2008 at 06:37 PM
Looks like the Phils will EATON a big chunk of that contract!
Posted by: OedipusSC | December 10, 2008 at 06:39 PM
ya good luck getting someone to give you one million for that piece of crap. I wrote a letter at the beginning of last year that said and I'm paraphrasing that "For some unknown reason my partial season plan had an abnormally large number of Eaton Starts in them" I want a refund.
He was horrible in Low A ball when he pitched there.

What a gift that would be. To even recover one million from one of the two bad Gillick-era moves (Freddy Garcia for Gavin Floyd, FAR worse) would be a gift. I don't think you could put a big enough gold sticker on that turd though. No way anyone wants Eaton.

Andruw Jones for Eaton straight up
Posted by: OedipusSC | December 10, 2008 at 06:41 PM
Trade him to the Eagles practice squad to replace a broken blocking sled, in return for 3 rolls of medical tape and a Gatorade cooler.
Posted by: abcrazy4dodgers | December 10, 2008 at 06:42 PM
I dont usually go into threads for teams other than my own, but this one made me laugh.
If they are paying just about all his salary and "dont want anything in return" isnt that GIVING him away and not trading him?
Why not just release him? Is 1 mil that much of a difference?
Posted by: yankeegirl49 | December 10, 2008 at 06:42 PM
How...Adam Eaton needs a collective hug right about now. Never have I ever heard a team publicly let it be known that a guy can he had for nothing. How about a dozen spaldings and some ankle tape to be named later?

Octoberflurry,
I think that the money spent on Eaton was going to go to randy wolf but he decided to sign with the dodgers instead.

I wonder if there's any chance he could be included in the possible 3-way Peavy trade??? If its true that they'll eat all but $1M I could see the Padres taking him back. SD is the only place he's had any kind of success and it'd reunite him with Balsley, his old pitching coach.

the sox will give ozzie guillen the fourth (or whatever) and Kenny Williams the second (or whatever) lol.

How did Eaton even get a contract of $9MM per year!?! He's posted an ERA+ of 100 or over once.
Posted by: Rob M. | December 10, 2008 at 06:45 PM
and the Yanks will throw in a case of 2008 Yankee media guides w/ a $5.95 cover price?
Posted by: YanksFanSince78 | December 10, 2008 at 06:45 PM
How about sending him to the Diamondbacks and then taking Eric Byrnes off their hands. That saves them $9M next season and we get a LF.
Posted by: jman1984 | December 10, 2008 at 06:45 PM
They should pay the trainer to inject some "plax seed oil" in him so he can fail the next drug test and have his contract voided out...(yeah I know that was bad)....sorry.
Posted by: YanksFanSince78 | December 10, 2008 at 06:47 PM
We should of sent him to Texas with Greg Golson.

If the Phils would eat all but a million of his salary, then i could see the Padres trade for him. It would make sense, its the only place where he had an success.

"Andruw Jones for Eaton straight up"
That actually makes more than comedy sense. The Phillies get someone to play LF and Jones can reinvent himself in the bandbox. He just better be ready to the reception. The Dodgers get a 5th starter or long reliever and cut their Jones liability in half.
If I were Ned Colletti, I would be on the phone right now.

Adam Eaton's Ass!! Get it??
He's the one of the worst contract's the Phillies ever signed!!
Benito Santiago in 1996 was the best. Hit career high 30 HR's that year and we had him for cheap!

This just in:
"Adam Eaton traded for 24 Pints of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia. Will be invited to compete for a roster spot at Spring Training, provided they don't melt before then!!"
Posted by: Phils Swiss! | December 10, 2008 at 08:09 PM
Trade him to the Detroit Lions for an autographed football from Calvin Johnson. They could probably use him as a quarterback. He'd probably have more interceptions than Ryan Leaf. Pretty sad.

New Report:
"Adam Eaton traded for some used Scuba Gear and half a tank of Oxygen. Oxygen hopes to be a full tank by April."

Intangibles must be off the chart.

I kind of feel bad for him but I know a high school team in my area who might need him =P
Posted by: Nick | December 10, 2008 at 11:30 PM
this is hilarious...thank you to the phillies and all the people in this thread for the comic relief.
