"If and when the Red Sox sign Teixeira.."
He sounds pretty confident. Nothing new on this front all day though??

I don't know why all teams wouldn't hold a player down in the minors for a few more days to avoid arbitration. Barring a glaring need to bring a player up, keeping him down for a few days could result in millions of dollars saved, let alone the ability to hold onto a player for an extra season. The Twins were rumored to be doing this with Liriano during the season. I don't see why teams wouldn't do that if they had the chance.

Keeping guys out of arbitration on a regular basis is a good way to screw up your relationship with those (and other) players. You can probably get away with it once in a while but sooner or later it will catch up to you in negotiations.

Brandon Lyon? Sorry, he just brings up the old bad memories of the closer by committee days.

Gotta love typepad. It just took me five tries to log in. I think everybody is confident about Texeira coming to Boston. Theo wants him therefore Theo will have him. And as for Lyon I like him and he may not be a back of the rotation guy. He might actually be a starter. The Sox don't really have a fourth starter and don't really have an obvious choice for starter. Either way it wouldn't hurt to give Lyon a look.
