« Chat With Matthew Cerrone Of SNY | Main | Dodgers Sign Yhency Brazoban, Others »
THURSDAY: The Cubs' three-year, $30MM deal with Bradley was finalized today.
TUESDAY: Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times says the deal could be announced Thursday. He adds:
His new contract is believed to contain language that protects the team on the back end of the deal if Bradley misses significant playing time on the front end.
MONDAY, 3:10pm: According to ESPN Radio's Bruce Levine, the Cubs signed Milton Bradley to a three-year, $30MM contract "with some options in the deal." Ken Rosenthal has a similar story, noting that the two sides have to "work through language issues."
Bradley, 31 in April, had a monster .321/.436/.563 line this year for the Rangers, but he spent only 165 innings in the field. This is the first multiyear deal of his career. If he stays healthy, the switch-hitter will give the Cubs balance in the middle of their order.
The Rangers will get a supplemental pick for their loss.

I wasn't really complaining about the Cubs, I actually think the Fontenot/Miles combo will be quite good at second, and if Bradley stays healthy then that lineup is going to be unreal.
I'm just really, really frustrated about that Swisher trade.
They didn't get a piece for the ML team that really helps, and the prospects they got have the upside of a 4/5 starter and a set up man. That's bulllshit.

I like this line up
2B- Aaron Miles
1B- Derrek Lee
RF- Milton Nradley
3B- Aramis Ramirez
LF- Alfonso Soriano
C- Geovany Soto
CF- Kosuke Fukudome
SS- Ryan Theriot

Thanks guys...I'm still in shock, not sure about Tim. I think the Cubs and their fans learned some lessons that they already kind of knew, but had to find out again, the hard way.
#1 - Soriano hitting leadoff is done. Can't happen anymore.

namesake,
That lineup won't work. The point of getting Bradley was to split up the right handers, not put them all together in the middle. Here is my lineup:
1) Soriano
2) Fontenot
3) Lee
4) Ramirez
5) Bradley
6) Soto
7) Fukudome
8) Theriot
9) Z

Just wondering why you changed your mind about Soriano leading off. I thought you were right the first time.

melonis rex, their only paying him 2 more than burrel. and burrel has been very inconsistent over the years.

2 more million per year***

Did we ever find out the exact contract??? I had heard that the 3rd year is not guaranteed til he reaches a certain number of innings played???

Remember that Aramis is not exactly the picture of health: It's relatively safe to say he's gonna miss 15-20 games. With DeRosa gone, his replacement is Miles. If Bradley were to go down, too, we might be looking at a significant number of games with Theriot, Fontenot, Miles, Fukudome, and Johnson/Gathright in the same lineup.
I'm scared.

Just watched a replay of Bradley's press conference....This guy really wanted to be a Cub...says he really didn't consider others...Liked his "wordplay" on Gehrig's speech when he said he didn't believe in "luck" but did consider himself the most "blessed" man on the face of the earth...He says he's lost 15 pounds this off-season and believes his new training regimen will reduce his injuries...He was asked on "Chicago Tribune Live" tonight how many games he expected to play in this season and answered: "180"----I liked that answer, but maybe he can amend it to "173" (162+3+4+4--it would be easier on the "nerves".) Bradley also said something about being inspired by his Texas teammate Josh Hamilton's comeback and everthing Hamilton was able to put behind him and felt he was capable of putting his past behind him as well. He did try to set the record straight on the incident from last season when he was accused of trying to "attack" the Royals announcer Lefebvre and said he was merely trying to talk to him man to man to set the record straight and had no intent of physically assaulting the man. Bradley also said he had a seat near the Cubs dugout for Game 3 of the NLDS at Dodgers Stadium when Torre's Blue Crew broomed the Cubs out of the playoffs.

Just a thought...anybody want to guess when Bradley will refer to Bleacher Bums as racists

I predict Reed Johnson will play more games than any other cubs OF. Fukudome still has some stamina issues, due to the rigorous MLB sch. and struggles against any pitcher that does their homework. Soriano hurts himself just running around the bases or in the field, on top of being dead last in on-base precentage for leadoff hitters in the NL. Bradley, well.. I think everyone knows his deal. I beleive the cubs signed Bradley partly for the left-handed offense and partly for insurance for Soriano and Fukudome. Lets ask some questions. Do you think the cubs really need more offense(regular season mind you)? Do you beleive the cubs need another over-paid, injury prone premadona outfielder? Bradley is just one piece of of the puzzle. Don't expect him to play everyday even if he is healthy. Sweet Lou has one more weapon for his ever shifting lineups. I feel Bradley's pros far out weigh his cons. I have to say BRAVO! to Jim Hendry for this signing.
P.S. Don't expect the Cubs to be done wheeling and dealing this off season. That Derosa trade is very suspect to me. The Cubs could of signed Bradley even with Delrosa's salary on their books. Look for another big move.

bradley is a stud.cub fans who complain about him or bring up his checkered past make me sick.im a die hard cub fan,and i truelly believe in hendrys abilities as a gm to get us the best available talent for our needs.the season has not started yet,or spring training for that matter.settle down.bleacher bums are mostly ignorant drunks anyways,so i really dont give a f what they say.most arent real cub fans anyways, just a drunk party.hendry is not done shaping this team up,so sit tight.and if you have something negative to say,go hang out on a whitesox post.

Don't get me wrong I'm a HUGE Cubs fan but did we lose a bet and HAVE to take Bradley?? Manny is out there, Abreu was out there, and we get Bradley?? Didn't his manager bodyslam him and put him out for the remainder of the season a year or two back? Bad influence on this team, its too bad really.
