Rangers Claim Joe Koshansky

MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan writes that the Rangers have claimed first baseman Joe Koshansky off waivers from the Rockies.

Koshansky, 26, led the minor leagues with 121 RBI last year. He also swatted 31 home runs while hitting .300. He's been added to the Rangers' 40-man roster and is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Oklahoma as the starting first baseman.

wow i'm surprised the Rockies let this guy get away

those Minor League numbers are crazy good.

the Giants could have definitely used his bat but the Ranger already got him

PCL stats, where 5'6" guys hit 20HR's. Have to be taken with a grain of salt, but still do look sort of nice for a 26 year old guy and maybe worth something down the road. Arlington is a friendly place to hit, so maybe some of it will translate.

johns

good point. I just think the Rockies could have gotten a nice player in return for him in a trade maybe a starter like they want

For what it's worth, the Rangers are going to have an awesome AAA team. They are sending both Feliz & Holland there, and the OF of Golson, Borbon, and Boggs will be pretty damn good. Arias at 2B, German Duran, Max Ramirez... wow.

The Rangers sure are stockpiling prospects. They're going to be a fun team to read about come the Trade Deadline

"By the trade deadline, the Rangers will be 20 games out of first place. Besides, they don't have any pitching and that's typically what teams want at the trade deadline."

Wow, must not have much knowledge about their farm system!!!

the okc redhawks are gonna be scary good.

ramirez c
koshansky 1b
duran 2b
arias ss
metcalf 3b
boggs lf
borbon cf
golson rf

feliz
holland
kiker?
main?

wow. also, that list doesnt include names like smoak, beavan, or beltre. and what if andruw jones stays in the minors? i know he's been strugglin obviously at the big league level, but with ranger tutelage, he has the potential to be great once again. great things to come for the rangers.

Who cares about the OKC Redhawks? So the Rangers claim Koshansky at a position where they already have Chris Davis and may need to move Salty or Max Ramirez.

In the meantime, they haven't done a thing about a rotation with Millwood, Padilla, McCarthy, Harrison and Feldman....the worst in baseball.

If OKC's rotation includes Feliz, Holland, Kiker and Main, OKC stands a good chance of beating the Rangers in a 7 game series. Sad...

Unfortunately for Texas, even promoting their fine pitching prospects won't likely turn things around for 2-3 years. It's too much to expect that many young arms to gel at the same time. I don't care how good the prospects are.

Just ask the Yankees about the championship they won last year with Hughes, Joba and Kennedy....oh wait. Billy Beane is about to experience similar pain in Oakland this year despite the fact that Oakland (top to bottom) has the best core of pitching prospects in baseball.

Even if young pitchers do well early on, inevitably they tend to hit the wall come August as top pitching prospects are rarely pushed beyond 130 IPs in the minors these days.

In short, no quick fixes for the Rangers pitching woes.

The Yankees have way, way more problems than the three pitching prospects you mentioned, all of whom (except maybe Chamberlain) I expect to have a minimal impact on the big league team.

And I'd say that the Rangers have the best pool of pitching prospects, top to bottom. But hey, that's just me. And Baseball America.
